JUNE 14th County Meeting Summary-Land owned by Kapoor:

A decision on the rezone of the 12.4 acres of Location Acquisitions' land north of the waterslide has been tabled until the next Planning Board meeting on Wednesday, July 12th at 6 p.m. A resident of Columbia Heights and licensed planner, submitted a letter to the Board this afternoon detailing some errors in the Staff Report. In addition, some extensive research was done on the "Two Bridges Zoning District"-- a term used in describing the property. Back issues of the Inter Lake were found detailing a citizen effort in the 1970s to establish a zoning district in the area below Columbia Heights, establishing a 10-acre minimum zone. It was later upheld by the MT Supreme Court. The Planning Board took the information very seriously and wanted more time to read the letter.

Neighbors on the east side of the Flathead River at Columbia Falls are seeking ideas for saving the open spaces and our pristine Flathead River. Can respond via email, Facebook messenger, or in the comments.

Regarding the River Highlands property and the 22 acres on the North side of Highway 2 adjacent to the bridge:

What would you like to see that would still protect the water quality, provide wildlife habitat and wildlife corridors, and maintain the character of the neighborhood for the long term?

What are your suggestions for making that happen? Would you be willing to participate financially to save this special and historically significant "Gateway to Glacier" properties?

Thank you for your ideas, suggestions and direction. Each response can provide a piece of the puzzle to save one of Montana’s “Last Best Places."

Reminder: Please plan to attend the City Council meeting Monday, April 17th, 7 p.m. at the CF High School Auditorium where the Council will discuss and vote to reject or accept the 22-acre Location Acquisitions high density housing proposal planned for just east of the Hwy 2 Flathead River bridge--7030 Hwy 2 Residences.

The City-County Planning Board unanimously recommended a "do not accept" in February. In March the Council postponed their vote in order to have more time to review the information presented. This Monday night meeting is not a public hearing -- the public comment period was closed at the end of the March 20th hearing, per MT codes. Still, very important that we have a large turnout at these meetings to show our interest.
