The Mt Vernon Bridge Opens Tomorrow August 23rd!

The community celebration to mark the opening of the Mt Vernon Bridge is only one day away - Saturday, August 23 - starting at 9:30 am with a ribbon cutting, followed by a classic car show on the bridge, booths from local businesses, music, the opportunity to walk the bridge, and even a blast of long dormant Santa Fe steam whistle!

The festivities will conclude at 1:00 pm to make way for the bridge to be opened for traffic later in the day!

Make your plans to "Boogie on the Bridge" on August 23rd!

The event will take place on the south side of the bridge at the corner of Mt Vernon Avenue and 2nd Street. Parking will be available in the Metrolink parking structure - at 1235 N. Metrolink Way.

The Mt. Vernon Avenue Bridge replacement project spans over one of the largest rail yards in the region - 22 active rail lines. Originally built in 1934, the iconic structure in San Bernardino, the Mt. Vernon Avenue Bridge connected communities on the west side of San Bernardino for 86 years, serving as a vital link for residents, visitors, students, and businesses. Prior to its closure, approximately 60,000 motorists used the bridge every day.

The City of San Bernardino and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) partnered with the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) to rebuild the bridge. The project has been challenging as the construction had to take place without disrupting activities at the rail yard.
