It was a whirlwind trip but well worth it. We distributed seeds and starter plants to the communities in the western part of the Pine Ridge Reservation and in Rapid City. Our Co Founder and Executive Director, Lynette Two Bulls Oglala Lakota roots run deep on this land . Northern Cheyenne and Oglala Lakota are allies, even more were relatives. It’s a natural progression to expand our work. We are continuing to plant seeds of hope.

It was a beautiful Memorial Day weekend. We gave to our FS participants and community: Seeds, Starter Plants, Garden Supplies and pollinator flowers. We remembered our loved ones that are on the other side and simultaneously encouraged our community to plant seeds and grow food. To plant a garden is to have hope for the future. All ages in the circle of life were represented. It was especially heartwarming to see the little ones and grandmas. Food Sovereignty is crucial. Onondaga Chief Oren Lyons said “Only those that know how to grow food will survive”

It was a beautiful day to pray for the water and the community and share a meal on Mothers Day. The Cheyenne word for Mother is Nako’eh which translates to Mother Bear. A bear greeted us and let us know that we need to continue to be strong . Thank you to all the women that came to pray and the men to support…together our prayers are strong. This is the first in a series of circles to uplift and encourage our women, the foundation of our homes, community and Nations.
