Hispanic Heritage Month takes place every year between September 15 – October 15, although the CSPM is proud to share Hispanic history and culture all year long. One of the important stories featured in Freedom to Thrive: The American Experiment in Colorado Springs is of the amazing Jackie Jaramillo – whose ongoing influence and impact in the Pikes Peak region is legendary! Colorado free college application days on Oct. 20-22. Students looking to enroll in postsecondary programs next year can apply for free Oct. 20-22 as part of Colorado Free Application Days. Visit the Colorado Free Application Days webpage for more information and a communications toolkit.

We have had changes, YET the mission is still the same, and we are proud to say that we handed out $13,000.00 this summer to our 2026 recipients! Congratulations to these well-deserved students!

An important piece of Colorado Springs history. ❤️ The Conejos neighborhood was home to generations of Mexican American families whose stories and contributions helped shape our community.

Colorado Springs built a park where a whole Mexican American neighborhood used to be.

The Conejos neighborhood sat just south of downtown, between Monument Creek and the rail tracks. Families from southern Colorado and northern New Mexico settled there in the 1920s and 1930s. Many called it una familia grande, one big family.

For decades the city left its streets unpaved. There were no sidewalks and no streetlights. Families raised their kids and kept their church going anyway.

In the 1990s the city began buying out the homes, and crews tore them down. In 2005, a new park opened on the land.

Only one building still stands from the old days. It is the 1910 Chadbourn Spanish Gospel Mission. The city museum now keeps the stories of the people who lived there.
