Dear Family and Friends:

After much consideration and consultation with Denver area veterinarians, the board of directors of Colorado/Wyoming Vizsla Rescue Group, Inc. (CWVRG) has decided to postpone this year's V-Ibe originally scheduled for September 16, 2023. Currently, this is only a postponement, not a cancelation.

We understand what a disappointment and an inconvenience this is. However, with the vaccine resistant, and sometimes deadly mycoplasma kennel cough variant going around as quickly as it is, we want to make sure we keep our dogs safe.

We are exploring rescheduling our event for some time in October. However, this depends on the advice of veterinarians, and of course, the weather. In the case that we must cancel altogether, alternate plans are being explored, especially for our silent auction.

We thank you all so much for your continued support and excitement at the thought of our annual V-ibe. There is nothing like sharing the love of our favorite breed with family and friends, not to mention seeing a couple hundred red dogs all together in one place.

Please watch this space for further updates.

Thank you everyone!

Teila Gilchrist President,

Hi all:

We at CWVRG are learning about the Kennel Cough outbreak in Colorado.

As the dogs’ safety is paramount, we are consulting with our veterinarians to determine if we should have the V-Ibe and will keep you all informed as to what we decide. Keep watching here or on our website (www.coloradovizsla.org) for the latest information.

Thank you!

Hi everypawdy!

This is Doc - letting you know how things are going... really well!!!

I have a foster mom, dad, and brother dog. My foster dog brother is not too sure about me yet because sometimes I feel like I have to be protective of my food and toys and sometimes just the space around me. My foster mom and dad are working with me to teach me I don't have to feel that way. They say I am responding well to training. I don't know what training is but it seems to involve treats. I love listening to the humans and getting treats!

My other loves? Playing with sticks outside, going on walks, and doing anything with my humans outdoors when the weather is nice. My favorite thing is to be curled up in their lap or next to them getting lovings and watching TV.

While I was listening to foster mom she was talking with somebody and they were talking about the "Rule of 3". What?

As I listened it was explained that people in rescue look at 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. They said "The rescue dog you have today is not the same dog you will have in 3 days, will not be the same dog in 3 weeks, in 3 months."

They explained that as the rescue dog is becoming acclimated to their new home, surroundings, people, animals, expectations, rules and boundaries, they will start to relax and get comfortable and their personality will start to come out. Sometimes during those times that rescue dog will test the limits, kind of like human children do sometimes. They may try to see what they can get by with.

Are they talking about me? Maybe that's part of why I was being more protective of my toys, food, and personal space a few days ago, but less now. That must be a good thing! That must be why I get yummy treats! And frankly, I don't want to be in charge or to feel protective - I just want to have fun.

The foster folks have been talking about my forever family. What is that? Are you my forever family?

Roo roo to you!

Doc

Okay Butter fans and followers (the dog, not the spread!)...here is Butter's update - straight from him...

Hi all! Butter here! I am loving my foster home. I am with human kids and three dogs. They are fun, fun, fun! I have heard the humans talk about resource guarding and other dogs and having concerns and then they would look at me. I don't know what resource guarding is but since I am smart, smart, smart, I am figuring it is something about me.

I heard foster mommy talking with somebody and they were talking about the "Rule of 3". I thought it sounded like I was 3rd in charge behind foster mommy and daddy or maybe I get 3 times as much food or 3 times as many toys. Apparently not.

As I listened it was explained that people in rescue look at 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. They said "The rescue dog you have today is not the same dog you will have in 3 days, will not be the same dog in 3 weeks, in 3 months." What is a rescue dog? Is that me? It must be because I surely rescued this family.

They explained that as the rescue dog (That's me!) is becoming acclimated to their new home, surroundings, people, animals, expectations, rules and boundaries, they will start to relax and get comfortable and their personality will start to come out. Sometimes during those times that rescue dog will test the limits, kind of like human children do sometimes. They may try to see what they can get by with. I know my personality is coming out and I'm starting to get really comfortable here.

One day I was feeling pretty good about myself, but I must have crossed a boundary foster mom was talking about because foster brother Barney gave me a "what for" and boy, did that make me take a step back and chill! Foster mom said that was really good and she seemed happy that I chilled.

The foster family is praising me a lot so I must be doing well.

I hear foster mommy tell people I am one of the smartest Vizslas she has ever fostered. She says I am doing much better with my resource guarding. I guess that must be because I don't feel quite as protective about my toys. It helps that foster mommy and daddy are super chill and I feel like they will take care of me. I'm feeling less like I need to be in charge. Whew!! That's good because I don't like feeling that way!

Foster mommy also asks everyone if they
know anyone who works with dogs in search and rescue, explosive detection, agility, etc. She says I would love nothing more than to be a working dog. I don't know what a working dog is but I know I love to play with my toys and to search to find them and to carry them around. I have been Falconing and love doing that!!

They have been talking about my forever family and how I am ready to go to the right family. What is that? Are you my forever family?

Roo roo!
