We enjoy spending our mornings at our healing garden🌿

We do wish our neighbors would respect the space as much as we do. It’s not very respectful to leave dog p**p and throw trash in a space where survivors go to heal and pray.

Yesterday we had a cow therapy session at an Ojibwe owned ranch in Calhan. A dozen women came out to cuddle floofy cows, kiss donkeys, love on baby ducks & give all the scratches to a very handsome Pyrenees. If your cortisol levels don’t decrease after all that I don’t know what to tell ya. 🐮🫏🐥🐾

“In 100% of youth presentations, we have had multiple disclosures of violence, some of which has been trafficking. We are giving these young people language to put to their lived experiences. We hope this will help them on their healing journey.” — Kara Napolitano, LCHT’s Education and Partnerships Director

One of LCHT’s training and education initiatives focuses on sharing info about human trafficking with middle and high school students and at facilities for incarcerated youth.

Getting into the community and learning more about lived experiences is so important to our work. The more we all know about the practice of exploitation, the better we can stop it and the closer we get to ending it.

We had an equine therapy session at Destinacion's Therapy & Maybell's Mission Inc. last weekend for one of the families we work with. Spending time with horses can lower cortisol and boost oxytocin, providing a safe and grounding environment for healing. We also incorporate some traditional horse teachings after the session 🐴
We are able to provide this service through a partnership with Urban Indian Health Institute

Sweetgrass staff & an awesome expert fisher were able to teach some survivors about fishing basics at 11Mile this past Saturday! We caught fish, shared laughs, and ended the day by learning how to properly fillet and prepare what we caught.🎣

Fishing is not just a hobby for many Native communities, it is a traditional practice that connects us to the land and our responsibility to care for the resources that sustain us. Teaching these skills is one way we help strengthen food sovereignty by empowering survivors and community members with knowledge that can increase self-sufficiency, confidence, and access to healthy, traditional foods.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this experience so meaningful. Also a big thanks to our two teachers 🎉We look forward to creating more opportunities that honor culture, build community, and support healing through traditional knowledge.
