🦌 Four Miles of Fencing Removed for Wildlife! 🏔️

A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped Wild Connections complete our Chubb Park Fence Removal Project! 💚

Over two weekends in July and October, volunteers took down approximately 4 miles of obsolete barbed-wire fencing at Chubb Park State Trust Land, improving habitat connectivity and helping elk, mule deer, pronghorn, and other wildlife move more freely through this important habitat and migration corridor.

And the results are already visible! We spotted pronghorn moving through the area the day after a fence line was removed. 🦌✨

Our partners are celebrating the results, too. The ranching lessee is very pleased with the project, and the local wildlife biologist is thrilled and impressed by the removal of four miles of fencing.

This project is a great example of what we can accomplish through collaboration, community involvement, and a shared commitment to conservation. We're incredibly grateful to everyone who volunteered their time and energy to bring this project across the finish line!

Together, we're making a lasting difference for Colorado's wildlife and the wild places we all cherish. 🌿

🍂 Fall is here—and there are plenty of ways to get outside and take action!

Join Wild Connections this weekend, October 3–4, for our final volunteer project of the year at Chubb Park, where we’ll be removing the remaining obsolete barbed-wire fencing to help wildlife move safely across this important habitat.

🥾 Looking for your next adventure? Join us October 31 at Wildcat Canyon for a monitoring hike on the public lands we work to protect.

🌲 And you don’t have to get outside to make a difference. You can still take action for Colorado’s wild forests by submitting a public comment in support of the Forest Service Roadless Rule by October 6.

Whether you’re lending a hand, exploring public lands, or speaking up for their protection, every action helps keep Colorado wild. 💚

🦌 One more weekend. One big difference for wildlife. 🦌

Wild Connections is heading back to Chubb Park State Trust Land this Saturday–Sunday, October 3–4, and we’d love to have you on the crew!

We’re tackling the final stretch of obsolete barbed-wire fencing—about 2.25 miles—to help elk, mule deer, pronghorn, and other wildlife move more safely through this important habitat. 🦌🌿

🔨 No experience needed! We’ll provide the tools, gloves, refreshments, and know-how. Come for one day or both, and reserved camping is available Saturday night. ⛺️

Come spend a fall weekend outside, work alongside fellow conservation-minded volunteers, and help us finish the job and make Chubb Park safer and more connected for wildlife. 💚🏔️

🌲 Browns Canyon National Monument Hike

Celebrate National Public Lands Day with Wild Connections and Friends of Browns Canyon!

Join us for a 4-mile hike with ~500 feet of elevation gain through the northeast section of Browns Canyon National Monument, following historic ranch trails and the Hefley’s Saddle Trail.

Along the way, we’ll explore the history of Browns Canyon, monitor for unauthorized motorized use, and learn why this landscape is so important for climate resiliency and wildlife.

🍂 Fall is here—and there’s still time to speak up for Colorado’s forests!

Two important Forest Service public comment opportunities are ending soon:

🌲 Travel Management Rule — comment by September 23
🌲 Roadless & Conservation Rule — comment period extended to October 6

These proposed changes could affect how our national forests are managed, including protections for roadless lands and how motorized travel is managed.

Wild Connections board member Alison Gallensky recently wrote a helpful overview for Rocky Mountain Wild, with more information on both rules and how you can take action.

🥾 A Few Spots Remain! North Catamount Creek Hike — This Saturday, Aug. 15 🏔️

Join Wild Connections this Saturday for a hike on the north side of Pikes Peak! We’ll explore an area affected by a Colorado Springs Utilities forest-thinning project and visit “beaver dam substitutes” designed to improve willow habitat and encourage beavers to return. 🦫🌿

The hike will cover approximately 6 miles with about 800 feet of elevation gain. Participants should bring lunch, snacks, plenty of water, and weather-appropriate clothing, including rain gear. 🌦️🥾

🚫 Sorry, no dogs allowed.

🚗 A carpool/caravan from Colorado Springs will be arranged.
