California's historic Gundlach Bundschu W**ery, one of the oldest w**eries in the U.S., announced it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization on Wednesday, the latest sign of challenges in the industry.
The Sonoma w**ery was founded in 1858 and holds the distinction of being California's oldest continuously family-owned w**ery. Gundlach Bundschu said the post-pandemic economy and an unsustainable debt burden created financial pressures it could no longer address outside a court-supervised restructuring.
Owner Jeff Bundschu said the bankruptcy filing will allow it to remain open while the court, creditors and "a potential new investor" can figure out a new business framework.
