In December of 2009, Bob Ruzicka had an idea: “take a group of medical personnel, associated with Per Diem Medical Staffing, to a third world country with the sole purpose of providing medical care to orphans.” By July of 2010, Bob, 4 additional medical professionals, and a journalist for Fox we jet setting off to Ethiopia for our first ever medical expedition. During the process of coordinating
the trip, with the help of Children’s Hope Chest, Bob quickly realized that in order for this trip to become a reality, he needed help raising the funds to support the expedition. As the plan began to evolve, Bob selected Ethiopia as the destination of our first medical expedition to take place in July 2010. This mission was the first of its kind, with no medical team ever performing such a task in Ethiopia. Throughout our trip the team visited 7 orphanages, seeing more than 500 orphans, and preformed basic medical treatment and care. When Bob returned from Ethiopia, he realized that this was something that needed to continue. That is when The Carey Foundation was created. This idea had been forming in his head, and gaining momentum after each and every orphanage the team visited. To see the lack of basic supplies that we as Americans take for granted on a daily basis was astonishing, and to witness and hear the need for proper education was overwhelming. And yet, most of the orphans still had a smile on their faces, and all they wanted was some support and love. That image is something that will never leave his mind or heart. And the team will forever be hearing the adults thanking God for sending our team when these children needed them the most. Traveling throughout Ethiopia, and seeing the team in action, gave Bob the idea for our logo and slogan, “The Universal language of Life, Health and Hope.” We were able to communicate to all the children through soccer (what soccer fans and many consider the “Universal Language”), and thus a soccer ball is used in the logo. The heart symbolizes the love the medical team displayed and the hope they gave to the children, and the caduceus symbolizes the medical knowledge our team brought to Ethiopia. So, WE NEED YOUR HELP! Our goal is to be able to send several missions each year to third world countries and provide the best medical care possible. In doing so we need your support. Please visit our official website at www.thecareyfoundation.com for donation details. We need small donations as well as individual or corporate sponsors. So, I ask you, PLEASE help us care for the children of the world. The Carey Foundation would like to thank you for visiting our website, and for helping and supporting our cause.
