Dear Brothers,
I hope this letter finds you all in good health and high spirits.
My name is Spencer Fier and I am the Grand Scribe of Beta-Omega for 2019. Since being initiated in late December, I have already seen the house grow and move in exciting new directions.
This semester we are proud to have initiated nine new brothers. From left to right below are Chili Hopkins, Chris Burleigh, Bennie Lewis IV, Anson Brown, Nick Barber, Hank Beddingfield, Crawford Mitchell, Ben Glass, and Will Funk -- all freshmen who are sure to be leaders for the future Along with the sixteen in my pledge class, we initiated a total of twenty-one new brothers this year ensuring a healthy and thriving house for years to come.
Unfortunately, however, we did have to say goodbye to another robust and beloved pledge year: our seniors. To be totally frank, I am quite jealous of the older brothers in the house who had far longer than I to get to know these outstanding individuals. I congratulate them all on graduating and for the hard work they have put into their academics and the chapter. Recently I have often considered what I have learned from our seniors over the past year, as their insight will help guide the house going forward and keep brothers in touch with what it means to be a Kappa Sigma and a Beta-Omega.
This year, under the direction of our Grand Master of Ceremonies Samuel Vang (Sophomore) the house has been working to elevate our philanthropic goals and form more connections with the Colorado Springs community. We have continued our work with Lutheran Family Services helping furnish apartments for refugees arriving in Colorado Springs. In addition, through the Pan-Hellenic Commission we were able to help Concrete Couch begin the process of transforming a piece of disused land into a park, urban agricultural space, and art studio. However, our ambitions reach much father. Brother Vang has been working hard to secure funding from the college for and to put on a large-scale philanthropic event. Taking place early next semester, the proceeds from this will go to our new philanthropic partner, Springs Rescue Mission. They are primarily focused on providing aid to the homeless and helping them find pathways out of homelessness. This event will be the beginning of a long-term partnership, moving towards regularly helping out in their soup kitchen and whatever other opportunities arise for us to mobilize our large group.
Hopefully many of you were able to come our alumni barbecue (held annually during homecoming) or to the Beta-Omega cocktail hour earlier in the semester and meet our Alumni Advisor and newly appointed District Grand Master Mitch Clark. We are always looking for ways to keep past brothers a part of the community, and to harness the experience you have all gained since graduating. We are currently working with alumni to help mentor current brothers and better our pledge process. If you would like to use your skills and experience to help out the chapter, you can get in touch by visiting our page: Kappa Sigma at CC or by email at [email protected]. If you aren’t a part of the Beta-Omega Alumni Council Facebook group, feel free to reach out to me by email and I would be more than happy to add you. Thank you for continuing to be key to the long-term success of Beta-Omega and for all your help.
