🌟 Ask Jasmine about her favorite moment in nearly two decades of rescue, and she won't talk about herself. She'll tell you about Goldie.
Goldie was a 6-month-old puppy seized from a cruelty situation and brought to the Tulsa SPCA. She had already learned that the world could be unkind, and she carried it in her body — hiding behind the nearest person or object every time someone came close.
During a dog walk orientation, every new volunteer rushed to pick a pup. Jasmine didn't rush. That left her and Goldie — the scared little one who wanted nothing to do with anyone.
Then something shifted. Once Goldie's leash was in Jasmine's hands, she softened. She radiated joy. And halfway through their walk, she plopped down in the grass to sunbathe, looked up sweetly, as if to say, isn't this the best?
In Jasmine's own words:
"I was floored and humbled by her trust... A couple other times, she decided, apropos of nothing, to sit down in the grass and sunbathe, and when she did this, she looked up at me sweetly, as if to say, isn't this the best? I'll remember her all my life."
That's the whole heart of this work, right there. Trust, once broken, can be rebuilt. Safety can be taught. A dog's past doesn't have to define their future — and the right person, at the right moment, can change everything.
