We’re now a few days into our Sustaining Roots Spring Campaign, and the response has been incredible.

So far, we’ve begun growing our monthly donor community and are seeing beautiful momentum from our community toward our goal of 50 sustaining supporters.

This campaign is about helping to build a steady, reliable foundation that allows Fresh Food Connect to keep doing what it does best: connecting backyard garden yields with individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

Right now, every new or increased monthly gift is still being matched up to $7,500 through June 1st.

We’re grateful to everyone who has taken the time to share or support.

We hope you join us! Gifts can be made here: https://give.freshfoodconnect.org/campaign/697105/donate

As we seek to grow our board, we've been reflecting on what makes Fresh Food Connect’s board so special: we have a group of highly intelligent, skilled inviduals who delight in putting their minds together to help connect more fresh produce with more people.

For some, that means bringing experience from entirely different industries into nonprofit work.

For others, it means helping guide an organization that aligns deeply with their values around climate, food access, and community.

Fresh Food Connect is currently seeking a few new Board Members as we continue expanding into new communities across the country.

We’re especially looking for people with experience in:
• Technology, product, or engineering
• Fundraising & development
• Marketing & communications
• Legal or governance
• Partnerships & business strategy

But just as importantly, we’re looking for people who care deeply about building a more connected and resilient food system.

This is a volunteer role with a modest monthly time commitment and an opportunity to contribute strategically alongside a thoughtful, mission-driven team.

Applications are open through June 7th, 2026.

We’re excited to launch our Sustaining Roots Spring Campaign!

This spring, we’re focusing on something simple but powerful: community that grows over time. Not just one-time support, but ongoing monthly giving that helps us broaden our impact.

Right now, we’re working toward growing our Sustaining Roots community from 30 to 50 monthly supporters, with a generous matching gift available for all new or increased monthly donations through June 1st.

Every monthly gift – even $5 or $10 – helps ensure fresh, locally grown produce continues reaching families who need it most.

That extra zucchini can change someone’s week.

When your garden produces more than you can use, it might not feel like a big deal. Just a few extra tomatoes, zucchini that won't stop multiplying, an overabundance of greens...

But on the receiving end, that same produce can mean access to fresh, nutritious food that isn’t always easy to find.

Across many communities, families rely on food distributions where shelf-stable items are more common than fresh fruits and vegetables. When locally grown produce is available, it adds something powerful: flavor, nutrition, and a connection to real, whole food.

We’ve seen firsthand how meaningful this can be. Volunteers and partners share stories of distributions where fresh produce is the first thing to go. Families light up seeing tomatoes, greens, or herbs, and start talking about how they’ll cook them that night.

This is where your garden comes in! We know that not everyone has an abundance in their garden. Each crop takes time and resources to grow, and it is not a simple thing to freely give away what you've carefully grown. There are Fresh Food Connect gardeners that donate 1 pound of produce per week, and some that donate over 100 per week.

Small, consistent donations from many gardeners add up quickly, helping supply local hunger relief organizations with fresh, seasonal produce throughout the growing season. We truly mean it when we say that every pound adds up!

Through the Fresh Food Connect app, it’s simple to share what you grow. The app connects you directly with local partners, making it easy to schedule pickups or drop-offs and track your impact over time. 🫶

Fresh Food Connect is always growing in more ways than one! One of the greatest privileges of our nationally distributed team is that we can have in-person conversations around hunger relief, food waste, and food systems as a whole in communities.

It was a joy to connect with others at the 2026 National GrowTogether Conference in NYC. Our new Marketing Manager, Adjoa, spent the day connecting with growers, organizers, community leaders and advocates who are passionate about hunger relief, reducing food waste, and making fresh produce more accessible to the communities that need it most.

We love to take part in events like these to be able to hear and learn from others and be surrounded by those who are deeply aligned with our mission. We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of these conversations and excited to continue building relationships throughout NYC that support stronger communities.

We hope to see you in Denver, NYC, or Southern CA very soon!

200+ gardeners have pledged to share their harvest so far this season. Can you help us reach 350 by May 15th?

Pledging to Share is simple:

Choose a donation cadence that works for you (weekly, biweekly, or monthly), and we’ll support you all season long with reminders, tips, and an easy way to track your impact right through the app.

We’re growing, and we're looking for a few thoughtful, passionate people to grow with us!

Fresh Food Connect is currently seeking 2-3 new members to join our Board of Directors as we enter an exciting next chapter. Since 2018, we’ve built a network of gardeners and community partners working together to increase access to fresh, locally grown food, and we're thrilled to continue the momentum.

As we expand into new communities and continue investing in our technology, we’re looking for individuals who want to help shape a more connected, resilient food system. This is a chance to bring your skills, perspective, and network to a mission rooted in equity, sustainability, and community care.

You might be a strong fit if you have any of the following....

Skill sets
• Technology, product, or engineering
• Nonprofit leadership & governance
• Fundraising & development
• Marketing & communications
• Legal experience
• Corporate partnerships or business strategy

Networks
• Connections in philanthropy, corporate responsibility, tech, gardening, or food distribution
• Strong ties in current or future Fresh Food Connect markets, particularly San Diego

Perspectives
• Gardeners, food donors, or community partners
• Individuals with lived experience navigating barriers to healthy food access
• People from historically marginalized communities, including people of color, Indigenous people, immigrants, refugees, women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people with disabilities

Just as important as experience is your passion for increasing access to fresh food and your willingness to be an active advocate for this work.

This is a volunteer role with a small monthly time commitment. It's an opportunity to make a meaningful impact alongside a team that believes in the power of sharing what we grow.

Know someone who’d be a great fit? Please share this with them!
