Of Mountains & Men

Of Mountains & Men We implement Christian-based wilderness programs for teenage boys, pointing them towards Christ! Mentorship – Boys need a guide in the journey to manhood
3.

Through the experiences of wilderness canoeing, deer hunting and winter adventures along with biblical discussions about masculinity, teens will obtain outdoor skills, confidence, and an understanding of what a Christian man is. Our Principles and Core Beliefs:
1.Outdoor skills result in increased confidence and capability
2. Masculinity is bestowed by a man or a group of men (from the book, “Wild

At Heart” by John Eldredge)
4. Men have God-ordained roles (from the book, “4 Pillars of A Man’s Heart” by Stu Weber)

A man’s tools are more than just steel and wood; they’re the chapters of a story. These knives have been through the brush, field-dressed harvests under freezing skies, and sat by the glow of a dozen campfires.

At Of Mountains & Men, we aren’t just teaching these boys how to keep an edge on a blade—we’re teaching them to be men who are sharp, reliable, and ready for whatever life throws at them. We’re passing down a heritage that doesn’t rust, rooted in tradition and anchored in faith.

What’s one tool or piece of gear you’ve owned forever that carries a story? Is it a knife, a compass, or maybe an old pack? Tell us about it in the comments.

The moment of truth. An elk downed is an incredible blessing from God, but the true harvest is what’s happening in the heart of this young man.

Standing over a harvest like this brings a sense of humility and gratitude that you just can't get anywhere else. It’s a heavy responsibility and a high honor—one that requires grit, prayer, and a deep respect for the life provided.

How do you teach the next generation about the ethics and responsibility of the hunt? Let’s talk about it below.

There’s no easy button in the wilderness. When the water ends, the work begins. Carrying a canoe isn't just about moving gear from point A to point B; it’s about carrying your weight—and then some—for the sake of the team.

At OMM, we don't just talk about being a man of character; we practice it under the weight of an aluminum hull. It’s hard, it’s sweaty, and it’s exactly what these young men need to realize they are stronger than they think.

What was the hardest physical challenge you’ve ever faced in the outdoors? Tell us your story below.

They say "inaugural" means first, but on this trip, it meant "full stringers." Our first-ever Of Mountains & Men Boundary Waters trek didn’t just meet expectations—it blew them out of the water.

Seeing these young men hold up a day's catch with that kind of pride is what it’s all about. In less than 24 hours, they learned the rhythm of the lake, the patience of the cast, and the reward of a hard day's work.

What’s your "go-to" lure when the pressure is on, and you need a bite? Let’s hear your secrets in the comments.

He's not there yet. And that's the point.

Every step into the field is part of the formation. Learning to move quietly, stay patient, read the land, and trust the process — that work happens long before any outcome does.

This is what preparation looks like in real time.

A boy walking into the wilderness with purpose. That's enough.

You don't always pull the trigger on a hunt.

Sometimes the hunt gives you something better — a herd moving through the valley, close enough to study, quiet enough to hold still for. These men and boys had put in the preparation. They were in the right place at the right time. And when the moment came, they watched.

That kind of patience isn't passive. It's practiced. And it stays with a young man long after the trip ends.

He didn't ask for help. He didn't need to.

That focus, that steadiness — that's what a few days in the field will do. Cleaning your own catch isn't glamorous work. It's responsible work. And there's a difference between a boy who's handed a fish and a boy who's learned to handle one.

We're grateful for every moment like this one.

A group doesn't look like this by accident.

This is what it looks like when men and boys spend days together in the wilderness — not competing, not performing, but learning. Older guides showing younger men how to carry themselves. Boys watching what steady, capable leadership looks like up close.

That's the work. And moments like this one are what it produces.

The campfire is where the real work happens. After the sun goes down and the gear is put away, we gather to talk about life, faith, and what it means to be a man of God in today’s world.

These "Campfire Talk" moments are the heartbeat of Of Mountains & Men. We aren't just teaching these boys how to survive in the woods; we’re teaching them how to thrive in life.

What is the best piece of advice you ever received while sitting around a campfire? We’d love to hear it in the comments.

Big water, bigger fish. 🎣

This isn't your neighborhood pond. We take these young men into the heart of the wilderness where they have to work for every bite.

Seeing the pride on a young man's face when he lands a trophy like this is great, but seeing the confidence he gains in himself is even better.

What was the first fish you ever caught? Do you remember who was there to help you net it? Share your story in the comments.

We just completed running a booth at the NW Sportsman's Expo in Minneapolis. While attendance wasn't exactly what we hoped for, we had some awesome conversations with potential applicants, donors, and volunteers. We've done several of these shows over the past few years, and it's amazing to see how some of our most dedicated volunteers and steadfast donors were first introduced to OMM through these shows. Please pray that God will use this show in unimaginable ways!

Just 5 days left — our Trip Application Window closes this Sunday, March 15th! If you've been thinking about submitting an application, or know a boy who could really benefit from our life-shaping trips, don't delay!
