Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈 We are proud to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community now and always. Pride is an invitation to live authentically, celebrate diversity, and reflect gratefully on those who fought and continue to fight for equal rights.

"Local storytellers play a powerful role in helping communities move from awareness to lasting change. In rural areas especially, stories shared by neighbors, veterans, parents, youth, business owners, and other community members can break through stigma in ways statistics and marketing campaigns alone cannot.

That’s why the Teller County Mental Health Alliance (TCMHA), an initiative of ChangeLine, launched the StoryTeller Project. This bold new approach to addressing stigma in rural communities shifts the narrative from “mental health problems” to shared human experiences. It reminds people that they are more than their hardest moments—and that every story told has the potential to create hope for someone else..."

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close and Pride Month parades in, we're grateful to share this guest post by Jay Mason (he/him), advocacy intern at Inside Out Youth Services. In this piece, Jay discusses the importance of community, connection, and authentic expression when it comes to the mental health of our LGBTQ+ young people.

Open up to see what fun events IOYS has coming up and why these shared experiences matter.

By Jay Mason (he/him), advocacy intern at Inside Out Youth Services May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to speak up and break down stigma surrounding mental health challenges. Data from the Trevor Project shows that in 2025, 84% of all LGBTQAI2+ young people wanted mental health care, bu

There are a few days left to fill out a Mental Health Crisis Experience Survey that the Su***de Prevention Collaborative of El Paso County is conducting.

Organizers are hoping for at least 400 responses – which are anonymous – to gauge how crisis care can be improved from locals who have used mental health services in El Paso County.

The survey is open through Friday to any adult ages 18 and over and is available in English and Spanish at the home page of the collaborative at spcollab.org.

It’s the first community-wide effort to collect first-hand experiences of mental health crisis care across the system, from the time someone reaches out for help through their transition back to regular life, said Cassandra Walton, executive director of Pikes Peak Su***de Prevention Partnership and chair of the Su***de Prevention Collaborative of El Paso County. 🔗 Read more: https://buff.ly/zE9KMk4

Our CEO, Amber Ptak, did a fantastic job moderating this discussion. We are so inspired by the turnout of youth who wanted to learn about the workings of local government and how they can get involved. As city council member Kimberly Gold said, "The future is bright and the future is now!"

Yesterday, Councilmembers Kimberly Gold and Nancy Henjum had the chance to sit down with the bright and thoughtful students of William J. Palmer High School. Their questions, ideas, and passion for shaping Colorado Springs’ future were truly inspiring. Thank you, Palmer students, for your engagement and for reminding us how powerful youth voices can be!

This May, use your voice to improve mental health crisis care in our region. 💙

The Su***de Prevention Collaborative of El Paso County (an initiative of ChangeLine) is collecting anonymous stories from people 18+ who have experienced a mental health crisis in the Pikes Peak region or are a care partner of someone who has. The survey is available in English and Spanish, takes less than 10 minutes, and closes May 22.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and what better way to start it off than with another successful gathering of the Pikes Peak Rising Business Collective?

The PPRBC met up at ChangeLine for a Speed Dating event where business leaders rotated tables every 10 minutes, spending time in small groups with local nonprofits to learn about the work they do and how they can lend their support. This session was part of a monthly Lunch & Learn facilitated by the Su***de Prevention Collaborative to support mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

Attendees included National Alliance on Mental Illness - Colorado Springs (NAMI - CS), Su***de Prevention Partnership, Status: Code 4, Inc.., Silver Key Senior Services, and Fishing the Good Fight.

We're so grateful to open our doors to these meaningful events. Every step toward improving mental health at work is a step toward a healthier, more connected region.

We love a good training! This week, our Health Equity staff teamed up with El Paso County Medical Society and Inside Out Youth Services to present Creating Inclusive Clinical Environments: a free opportunity for physicians and other physical health providers who wanted to strengthen the culture, awareness, and systems within their practices to better serve LGBTQ+ patients.

This work is so important in helping members of our local community feel safe and heard—conditions under which they're more likely to seek and continue the care they deserve.

Thanks to everyone who signed up, and to our partners who helped make this happen.
