On October 11th, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a fatality at southbound I-295, north of exit 38B. The trooper’s preliminary investigation reveals that Hanover County Fire-EMS was on scene providing assistance with a two-vehicle crash with all of its emergency equipment activated, when a tractor trailer traveling southbound struck the engine in the rear. Unfortunately, a total of three Fire-EMS personnel were injured in the crash with one of them succumbing to their injuries at the scene. Two were transported with serious injuries sustained at the scene from the crash. The driver of the tractor had to be extricated from the cab of the truck and was transported for treatment with serious injuries. The firefighter killed in the line of duty, at the scene of the crash, was Lieutenant Brad Clark from, Hanover County Fire-EMS. The crash is still under investigation, but the Dispatch noted poor driving conditions as Hurricane Michael brought “heavy rain and winds, in addition to some tornadoes,” to the region.

TRAGIC UPDATE: Henrico Firefighter Identified as Victim in Deadly Richmond Hit-and-Run

Richmond, Va. — A Henrico County firefighter has been identified as the 28-year-old man killed in a hit-and-run crash in Richmond late Friday night as Virginia State Police continue searching for the driver responsible.

The Henrico Division of Fire identified the firefighter as Ashtain Noel Davis, a recent graduate of Recruit Academy 86 who completed his fire training in July.

“The Henrico Division of Fire is deeply saddened to announce the unexpected death of Firefighter Ashtain Davis,” the department said in a statement this afternoon.

Davis joined the fire service in 2025 after previously working in armed security and serving in the military, according to Henrico Fire.

As we previously reported, Davis, of Petersburg, was riding a 2025 Harley-Davidson FLTRX when he was struck on the ramp from westbound Interstate 64 to southbound Interstate 95 between approximately 11:20 and 11:27 p.m. last night.

According to a preliminary investigation by Virginia State Police, a dark-colored SUV struck Davis’ motorcycle, throwing him from the bike. Davis died from his injuries at the scene. State police said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The SUV fled the scene, and the driver remains at large as state police continue working to identify and locate the person responsible.

Based on witness information and debris recovered at the scene, investigators believe the suspect vehicle may be a dark blue or black 2014-2019 Jeep Cherokee or Compass. The SUV may have minor front- and rear-end damage and a missing mirror.

“We stand in solidarity with Ashtain’s family and are ready to support them during this time,” Henrico Fire Chief Doug Clevert said. “We are grateful for Ashtain’s service and his continued commitment to serve his community.”

The crash remains under investigation.
