This past week, two members of Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue Squad attended the first Virginia First Responder Symposium in Blacksburg. While the event has a new name, many of us still caught ourselves calling it Rescue College throughout the week—and fortunately, nobody seemed to take any points off for it 😉

Our members spent the week expanding their knowledge and skills through specialized training programs designed to strengthen emergency services across Virginia. One member completed ICS 300, an advanced incident management course that prepares responders to function within larger, more complex incidents and disaster operations. Our Training Officer attended EMS Officer I, EVOC Instructor, and Field Training Officer programs focused on leadership development, emergency vehicle operations, and training the next generation of providers.

The Virginia First Responder Symposium offers a wide variety of educational opportunities that are difficult to find locally, including leadership development, technical rescue, incident management, instructor-level programs, emergency communications, mental health and resiliency training, and many other specialized courses.

Training like this helps ensure that the knowledge gained in the classroom is brought back home to benefit our members, our patients, and the communities we serve.

We would like to thank everyone who supports Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue Squad. Your support helps make continuing education and professional development opportunities like these possible.

Stay tuned as we work to put these new skills into practice and continue improving the service we provide to our community.

We’re excited to add this utility truck to our fleet!

A huge thank you to Pit Stop Auto Sales in Eden for helping us get a great deal, Lee’s Wheel & Tire for always keeping our vehicles rolling, and ProGraphix for the outstanding decals and lettering.

This truck will serve an important role by transporting our off-road vehicles to incidents and events, helping reduce wear and tear on our gas-powered QRV (Quick Response Vehicle). Every addition to our fleet helps us better serve our community, and we’re grateful for the local businesses that help make it possible.

Today, Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue Squad was honored to assist with the All Vets Memorial Ruck March as participants passed through our area and stopped at a resting point within our jurisdiction.

We are always proud to work alongside organizations like All Vets, AMVETS and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office in support of meaningful events that honor our nation’s veterans and bring our community together.

We wish all participants a safe and successful remainder of the march.

Happy Mother’s Day from Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue Squad!

Today, we celebrate all the moms, grandmothers, stepmoms, foster moms, and mother figures who hold families together through love, strength, and sacrifice. Thank you for the countless rides to practice, late-night talks, packed lunches, hugs, prayers, and everything else in between.

We also want to recognize the mothers serving our community in EMS, healthcare, public safety, and beyond — including the dedicated moms within our own squad. Your compassion doesn’t stop when the tones drop, and we are grateful for everything you do both at home and in service to others.

Whether you’re spending today surrounded by family or remembering a loved one, we hope you have a safe and meaningful Mother’s Day.

From all of us at Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue Squad: thank you, moms. 💐

📞🚨 It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 🚨📞

Before the sirens.
Before the lights.
Before we even know what we’re walking into…

There’s a voice.

The calm in the chaos.
The one asking the questions that matter.
The one giving life-saving instructions over the phone.
The one keeping responders informed, safe, and moving.

Dispatchers, call takers, telecommunicators — whatever title you carry —
you are the first, first responder.

You may not be on scene, but you are in the middle of it all.
And you don’t get nearly the recognition you deserve…
but make no mistake — nothing we do works without you.

From sending the right resources, to guiding childbirth over the phone, coordinating landing zones, and managing absolute chaos like it’s “just another Wednesday”—
you’re holding it all together behind the scenes.

From all of us at Fieldale-Collinsville Volunteer Rescue Squad:
we see you, we appreciate you, and we couldn’t do this job without you.

💛 Thank you for being the voice people hear on their worst day.

👇 Tag a dispatcher and show them some love this week!
