The New York State Court Reporters Association was organized for the purpose of maintaining standards of excellence in court reporting, promoting the general welfare of court reporters, fostering high professional standards, and promoting a spirit of mutual assistance between the prof

ession of court reporting, the courts, and members of the bar. Stated broadly, the NYS Court Reporters Association informs, alerts, educates, and advocates for the reporting community throughout New York State. Judicial-related reporters, students, captioners, and CART providers are welcomed and supported. This association is focused on improving conditions and advocating for all court reporters in New York State. It is vigilant about finding and opposing threats to court reporting jobs. It provides opportunities to enrich your career by giving you knowledge/skills to become a more valuable court reporter. It encourages and supports our students – perpetuating the longevity of our profession. It promotes and represents our profession to the public. It provides opportunities for networking and camaraderie. And it salutes those deserving of recognition. Other professionals have theirs. In New York State, we have the New York State Court Reporters Association. This organization is all about one person - You! Our volunteers work hard – for You!

The New York State Court Reporters Association is pleased to announce the recipients of its prestigious Horizon Scholarship for 2026. This scholarship program exemplifies our unwavering commitment to fostering education and supporting outstanding individuals in the pursuit of their stenographic careers.

Thanks to the generosity of our contributors to the fund, we are able to award a scholarship to each of the applicants this year. These remarkable individuals have submitted outstanding academic records, compelling essays, and have demonstrated their commitment to the pursuit of excellence.

About the Horizon Scholarship:
The Horizon Scholarship was established in 1991. The fund was organized for the purpose of sponsoring educational and scientific projects pertaining to manual or mechanical verbatim reporting by the use of shorthand symbols, with particular emphasis on training and education, and study in the advancement of the art of shorthand reporting.

Please help us spread the word! 
The New York State Court Reporters Association is delighted to announce that the 2026 Horizon Scholarship Fund application process is now open to eligible students. 

The Eligibility Requirements and the Scholarship Application Form can be found at www.nyscra.org/horizon-application-and-recipients. Interested students must have the application form and all required supporting documentation sent to [email protected] by 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2026.

The purpose of the Horizon Scholarship Fund is to sponsor educational and scientific projects pertaining to the art of verbatim stenographic machine shorthand.  Specific emphasis is placed on training and education, the use of shorthand symbols, and studying the technological advances in the art of shorthand reporting. 

Since 1991, the Horizon Scholarship Fund has been awarding scholarships to exceptional court reporting students.  All funds are supported by the generous donations received by NYSCRA from its members. If you would like to help support the fund and the future of court reporting in New York State, you can do so by visiting our website at www.nyscra.org/donate-to-the-horizon-scholarship-fund

Since 1991, the Horizon Scholarship Fund has been contributing scholarships to as many outstanding, qualifying court reporting students as possible each year. 100 percent of all donations to the fund go directly toward Horizon’s award-winning students’ school expenses.
