This past weekend, AG Brandon Palmeri proudly represented the Rotary Club of Weirton Heights and Area 1 at the District 7545 Conference in Kingwood, WV. It was an amazing weekend packed with friendship, inspiration, and plenty of Rotary spirit, all centered around our shared commitment to Service Above Self.

A special highlight of the conference was Brandon serving as the transportation aide for polio survivor Ramesh Ferris, who traveled from Canada to share his powerful story about living with polio and the impact it has had on his life. As you can see from the photos, Brandon and Ramesh had a fantastic time together throughout the weekend, sharing laughs and making memorable connections along the way.

Ramesh’s presentation was both heartfelt and uplifting, inspiring Rotarians to keep the momentum going in support of Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign and helping move us one step closer to a polio-free world.

Over the coming weeks, Brandon will be visiting clubs throughout Area 1 to share exciting district updates, fresh ideas, and highlights from the conference as we continue working together to make a positive impact in our communities.

This morning we had the insightful pleasure to hear from Dr. Shahvaiz Magsi, Neurologist at WVU Medicine WMC.
Dr Magsi specializes in strokes, migraines, seizures, and dimentia among others. Some of the information learned today included the acronym BEFAST for identifying strokes, different types of headaches and migraines, and the “normal everyday forgetfulness” versus dimentia.
Did you know the human brain only weighs 3.3 pounds?

Last week our club welcomed Deb Witkowski, health and wellness coach of the Giving Ourselves Amazing Lives (GOAL) group. For 13 years Deb was a Weight Watchers Leader until the company discontinued face-to-face meetings. Deb wanted to continue to help others with their health and wellness journey, which brought about GOAL. The group meets at the Millsop Community Center at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays, where she coaches and leads the group not only in improving their physical health, but all aspects of leading a happy and productive life. Deb also works with her husband, Rick – Studio L, and together they have written and produced music for a variety of kid’s online shows. They have also written many Ohio Valley businesses audio logos through jingles for tv and radio. Thank you, Deb for an inspirational and upbeat presentation!
