Dallas - Fort Worth Dachshund Rescue The DFW Dachshund Rescue Foundation rehabilitates and re-homes abandoned, discarded, and surrendered dachshunds in the Dallas - Fort Worth area.

We are staffed solely by volunteers, and are supported by donations and adoption fees. The Dallas-Fort Worth Dachshund Rescue Foundation is a well-established 501(c)3 organization with a history of providing dachshund related education and service to the DFW community. If you are looking to adopt or purchase a dachshund, have dachshund related training or behavior questions, or need to place your dachshund, we may be able to assist you. If not, we will make every effort to find you someone who can. Dachshunds in our program are fully vetted before adoption. This includes being altered, receiving all needed immunizations, having a dental cleaning and being microchipped. Any other medical issues the dog has will also be addressed before being adopted. Our dachshunds are placed in foster homes while they undergo rehabilitation and await adoption. This allows us to better evaluate the personalities of each dog, which provides a better match for potential adopters. While in their foster homes, the dachshunds are socialized, given plenty of love and praise, and some begin to pick up basic housetraining skills and obedience.

People that only focus on the high they get from "saving" the dog but don't care about where the dog ends up are in rescue for the wrong reason.

Run free Porter, we are glad that DFWDRF found you the perfect home for all those years! Our adopters are the best, hands down!

Honey, a 3 year old red smooth miniature female dachshund, is now ready for her new home. She was surrendered by someone with extensive health issues who knew that she wasn't in a position to care for a dog. Honey definitely lives up to her name! She was basically healthy when she arrived and only needed routine types of vet work.

If you live in the DFW or immediately surrounding area, we would be happy to send you an adoption application. The applications go out only via postal mail, so if you are interested...email that information to: [email protected]
and we will get an application to you!

Oscar, a 4 year old red miniature longhair male, is now ready for his new home! He came to us when his family no longer had time for him. His coat was incredibly matted and he had almost none of his routine veterinary care that had been done. Thankfully, he was healthy overall, and now with his vet care done and grooming done--he's ready for his new family.

If you'd like to apply, you must live in the DFW or immediately surrounding area. Our applications are sent only by postal mail, so if you'd like one, send your name and postal address to:

As the vet says in this article-- adult dogs must relearn housetraining in their new home. Do not expect the new dog to be perfectly housetrained from the minute they arrive to their new home.

Whether you’re buying from a breeder or adopting from a shelter, this is what you should know before bringing home your new family member.

Adopters--we sent the "every 2 years" picnic invitations out a few weeks ago. We've had a good number of responses, but if you haven't responded (or didn't receive an invitation--then let us know) please do. There was stamped envelope and form for you to respond with --so easy to do! Helps us be able to plan for parking, food, etc for the picnic on October 25th. You can message us with questions if you have them. :-)
