🌲 BONUS QUESTION! 🌲

As we get ready for our nature trivia at the Saint John's Outdoor University and Abbey Arboretum Fall Social on Friday, October 9, we have a BONUS QUESTION for anyone who dares to answer. You can even use your phone!

Question: In what year did Father Paul Schwietz, OSB, found the Saint John's Arboretum, designating the Abbey land as a natural arboretum for education, conservation, and research?

Good luck!

Last week, Saint John's Outdoor University, CSB & SJU Environmental Studies Department, and Sustainability Office csbsju were honored to host the 20th Anniversary of the Upper Midwest Association for Campus Sustainability at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University .

Hosting tours through the Saint John's Abbey Arboretum - Nature Sanctuary and nearby St. Cloud, a keynote speaker with Ben Passer from the McKnight Foundation, dozens of breakout sessions, and convening more than 300 sustainability professionals from Missouri to Michigan, it was an uplifting and inspiring weekend. As a special highlight, Dr. Derek Larson, Environmental Studies Chair and one of UMACS' original founders, received the (Re)Cognition Award for Sustainable Educator of the Year, a prestigious honor recognizing individuals who have made a significant impact on students and sustainability. We cannot thank everyone enough for attending and for celebrating our little slice of heaven with us!

-- Part #4!

A special thank you to our anonymous donors that fully support our Abbey Forest Professional and our Environmental Education Fellow. These unbelievably generous gifts (without need or want of recognition) have been critical to expanding our capacity to take care of the Abbey Arboretum and reach thousands more students of all ages while developing two amazing young professionals. We are very grateful for these investments in our impact.

As well, we are only ONE week away from the Saint John's Outdoor University and Saint John's Abbey Arboretum - Nature Sanctuary Fall Social on Friday, October 9 at Milk & Honey Ciders!
