You never know what challenges you have to overcome as organisers or helpers of organisers to something as big as a World Shakuhachi Festival. Here is a timelapse video of David Wheeler with Kiku Day as assistant, creating a koto stand from scratch. Thanks to Jeff for great help at the LAAH workshop at Texas A&M University. Those of you, who are coming to WSF2025, will see the stand in use first time on the opening concert on Thursday.

From the deeply moving traditional Zen pieces to the rich, dynamic sounds of 19th-century ensemble music and iconic contemporary works, this concert will take you on a journey through the centuries-long versatility of the shakuhachi, a mesmerizing Japanese bamboo flute whose sound transcends space and time.

Featuring 17 concerts in five geographic areas throughout Texas, this gala concert is this highlight of the 2025 World Shakuhachi Festival (WSF), and the first time WSF has been held in the US in over 20 years! It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the unfolding of history as masters from around the world gather to share their artistry and unyielding commitment to the preservation and development of the shakuhachi and its sublime repertoire.

On April 10th, 2025 at the College Station City Council meeting, Marty Regan, Kiku Day, and David Kansuke Wheeler witnessed this declaration and received the declaration letter. From the 14th to the 20th of April will be World Shakuhachi Week in College Station, Texas.
