INFORMS student chapter is organizing a coffee and chat with Professor Shmuel S. Oren Today, November 8th @ 11:00-11:30 am in ETB 1005

It is a great opportunity to get introduced to a professor like him and chat with him in a more informal way Dr. Shmuel S. Oren is Professor of the Graduate School and the Earl J. Isaac Chair Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at UC Berkeley. He has also been a member of the California ISO Market Surveillance Committee and a consultant to numerous private and public entities in the US and abroad. His research has focused on nonlinear optimization, mechanism design, energy systems and on the design and analysis of electricity markets.

Ming Yuan is the Professor of Statistics in Columbia University. He got his Ph.D. in Statistics from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2004.
His research fields include Tensor, Computational Microscopy, High Dimensional Nonparametric Regression, High Dimensional (Inverse) Covariance Estimation, Sparse Signal Detection, Dimension Reduction and Index Models, Functional Data Analysis.

Join us in a two-day workshop, Sept. 20 and 21, with James L. Harroun, SAS Principal Analytical Consultant, for a hands-on introduction to SAS programming, SAS Enterprise Miner, integration of SAS into Python and R, SAS Viya and Viya for learners.

The workshop will include the use of the different SAS platforms for data mining, visual data mining and machine learning. The number of participants is limited, so hurry up and register for this great opportunity at the following link!

Join us in this last event of the semester at INFORMS Faculty & Student Luncheon on Tuesday, April 30th, 2019 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm in ETB 4002 to have a meal with the Professors and Fellow Graduate Students.

Dr. Aly Megahed is a research staff member at IBM’s Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA. In his current job, he develops and advances research in analytics, statistics, machine learning, and operations research to address different service science, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain technology problems. Dr. Megahed got his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech with a focus on the development of operations research and analytics tools for solving problems in supply chains and logistics systems.

If you are graduating or moving, INFORMS Student Chapter at Texas A&M is going to help you free some of your suitcase room. INFORMS is hosting a donation drive for TWIN CITY MISSION from 23rd - 30th April 2019. The donation box is located on the 4th Floor in room 4062 in the ETB building.

Twin City Mission is a non-profit organization to help all individuals and families have an opportunity for hope, acceptance, and stability in a safe and caring environment. INFORMS is calling to donate your gently used or new clothes or shoes to help Twin City Mission to achieve their vision. If you are also interested in helping Twin City Mission with the other needs, please check the link below and you can get contact with them.

The following is a list of some of the items that can be donated to the Mission:

Join us on Saturdays April 20 and 27 and get hands-on training on the SAS data analytics software.

Each Saturday we will have a 4-hour hands-on workshop by Prof. Faron Kincheloe, during which we will learn how to write SAS programs to access, explore, prepare, and analyze data, which is the entry point to learning SAS programming for data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

In this workshop, we learn to
Use SAS Studio to write and submit SAS programs.
Access SAS, Microsoft Excel, and text data.
Explore and validate data.
Prepare data by subsetting rows and computing new columns.
Analyze and report data.
Export data and results to Excel, PDF, and other formats.

No prior experience in using the SAS software is required.

INFORMS student chapter is organizing a coffee and chat with Dr Katya Scheinberg at ETB 3027 from 3-3:30 pm on 4/15 (today).

Katya Scheinberg is the Harvey E. Wagner Endowed Chair Professor at the ISE Department at Lehigh University and a director at the Lehigh Data, Intelligent Systems and Computation at Lehigh Institute. She worked at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center as a research staff member for over a decade before joining Lehigh in 2010.

She is currently the editor-in-chief of Mathematics of Operations Research and a co-editor of Mathematical Programming (see the attached flyer for more details).

Given her experience in both academia and private research institution, this would be a great opportunity for those who are weighing in academic-industry jobs.

Join us this Saturday, April 13, 2019, to get hands-on training on the data analytics software and earn JMP company issued certificate!

A 4-hour hands-on workshop by Kevin Potcner (a Statistical Scientist from JMP) to help us develop our skills in using JMP Pro software in our teaching and research. Topics covered will include Data Visualization, Basic Statistical Inference, Building and Evaluating Statistical Models, Multivariate Statistical Techniques, among others. No prior experience in using JMP is required.

Kevin Potcner is an Academic Ambassador for JMP Statistical Discovery Software from SAS. He has 25+ years of experience developing corporate training programs and providing statistical consulting services to help scientists and engineers apply the statistical sciences to optimize processes. He has worked with a wide range of industries including biotech, medical device, pharma, automotive, semiconductor, among many others.
