The MSC Wiley Lecture Series presents "The American Dream at 250: Still Within Reach?" on April 22, at 7 PM at the Rudder Auditorium at Texas A&M University.

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, the nation reflects on the meaning and durability of the American Dream. Long associated with opportunity, liberty, and the promise of advancement across generations, it has shaped how Americans understand their country and its institutions. Yet declining economic mobility, rising cost of living, and growing skepticism toward public institutions have prompted renewed debate about how opportunity in the United States is created and sustained.

This program will explore how the American Dream has evolved and what it means for the nation's future. Drawing on historical, policy, and international perspectives, the conversation will examine the forces shaping opportunity in the United States. The discussion will also look beyond the nation: it will explore how the ideals of the American Dream continue to influence how other nation-states think about prosperity and democratic possibility.

As these changes redefine the relationship between citizens and the institutions that shape opportunity, the discussion will consider what it will take to sustain the Dream in the years ahead. After 250 years of the American experiment, a central question remains: Can the American Dream endure?

The panel of speakers includes:
President Bajram Begaj, President of the Republic of Albania
Elaine Chao, 24th U.S. Secretary of Labor and 18th U.S. Secretary of Transportation
Jon Meacham, Presidential Historian and Pulitzer-Prize Winning Author
Moderated by Andrew (Andy) Card, Former White House Chief of Staff

Tickets are on sale at the link in our bio.

Another program is right around the corner!

Join us next Wednesday, November 12, at our symposium, Playing With Power: How Strong Leaders Reshape States and Systems! Engage in exploration of how powerful leaders shape politics, policy, and global relations. The program examines how figures who rise through democratic means can undermine the very systems that empowered them, tracing the domestic and international dynamics of autocrats throughout history. Experts will discuss key ideologies and policies such as interventionism, democratic-peace theory, propaganda, and democratic drift to reveal how democracies can function and fail, as well as the consequences for governance and relations between different types of states.
