We’re proud to be partnering with Junior League of Bryan-College Station tomorrow in support of their annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive! 📚💙

If you’re out and about, stop by the Tower Point HEB between 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM. Our members will be there helping collect school supplies and donations for local students.

Every backpack starts with the basics, and your donation can help ensure kids in our community begin the school year with the tools they need to succeed.

College Station Police Department is tied for the largest sign-on bonus on this list at $20,000, yet it serves a community unlike any of the others shown:

College Station

College Station officers don't just police a city of over 128,000 residents. They also serve one of the largest universities in the nation, respond to the demands of SEC football weekends, a thriving entertainment district, major special events, and a community that continues to experience rapid growth.

It's worth asking whether compensation should more accurately reflect the scope, complexity, and volume of service expected of the officers protecting our community.

Recruiting great officers begins with competitive incentives, but retaining them requires salaries that reflect the responsibilities they carry every day.

The conversation in College Station shouldn't just be about who offers the biggest sign-on bonus. It should be about ensuring compensation keeps pace with the demands of the job.

How Many Warnings Do We Need?

This weekend's events in Northgate should concern every resident of College Station.

More than a dozen arrests. Fights. Intoxicated drivers. Narcotics offenses. Crowds interfering with police officers attempting to restore order. This isn't the image of our community that most residents want, and it certainly isn't what our officers deserve to face while protecting the public.

Let's be clear: these incidents were not caused by the overwhelming majority of responsible patrons who simply wanted to enjoy a night out. They were caused by individuals who made the choice to engage in criminal behavior and by a bar culture that, at times, seems willing to excuse it as "just another night in Northgate."

It isn't.

Violence is not entertainment. Driving while intoxicated is not a rite of passage. Interfering with police officers is not harmless fun. These actions place lives at risk and create an environment that threatens the safety of everyone present—from patrons and employees to first responders.

Our officers will continue doing what they have always done. They will answer the call, run toward the danger, separate the fights, arrest offenders, and work to keep people safe. That commitment has never wavered.

But law enforcement alone cannot solve this problem.

At some point, the community must decide what it wants Northgate to be.

Do we want a destination known for hospitality, entertainment, and responsible nightlife? Or are we willing to accept recurring scenes of violence, disorder, and dangerous behavior as the cost of doing business?

That conversation belongs to all of us—city leaders, business owners, property owners, university stakeholders, residents, and patrons alike.

The College Station Police Officers Association believes our community is capable of better. We believe Northgate can remain a vibrant destination without tolerating the criminal behavior that too often overshadows the many businesses and people who are trying to do things the right way.

The officers who worked this weekend deserve more than our thanks. They deserve a community willing to confront difficult questions and demand better outcomes.

The time for that conversation is now.

Big shoutout to all the Officers and police staff working the streets! This weekend in Aggieland is busy with Chilifest, Ring Day, Parents Weekend, TAMU v TU Baseball, 44 Farms Team Invitational, and other local events. With these occasions come large crowds, increased calls for service, and resource management challenges -> on top of their regular workload, as our Officers work hard to provide premiere law enforcement service to all residents and visitors.

We encourage everyone to be patient on the roadways, behave responsibly, and do not drive while intoxicated. If you see one of our hardworking Officers this weekend, give them a smile, a wave, a thank you, or toss them an energy drink, they will need it!

This past Sunday, our Officers responded to a shooting in our city — a dangerous, fast-moving situation that required courage, discipline, and immediate action.

Incidents like this are a sobering reminder of the reality our members face every single day. When shots are fired, when lives are at risk, and when chaos unfolds, it is the men and women of our Police Department who run toward the danger.

Responding to high-risk calls such as shootings is only one part of the job. On any given shift, Officers also handle domestic violence calls, mental health crises, traffic accidents, missing persons cases, community events, school safety concerns, and countless other responsibilities due to the size of the City and its unique policing environment. The scope of modern policing is vast — and the risks are real.

These critical incidents highlight why our city must prioritize:

🚔 Full staffing levels – So backup is available when seconds matter, and officers aren’t stretched dangerously thin.

🎯 Comprehensive training – So officers are prepared to make split-second decisions under extreme pressure.

💼 Competitive pay and benefits – To recruit and retain qualified professionals willing to take on this responsibility.

Public safety cannot be an afterthought. A fully staffed, well-trained, and properly supported police department isn’t a luxury — it’s a necessity.

We are proud of the professionalism and bravery demonstrated by our Officers over the weekend. We also remain committed to advocating for the resources they need to continue protecting this community safely and effectively.

Thank you to our Officers who put on the badge each day knowing the risks involved.

Patrol is currently investigating a deadly conduct in progress with shots fired in the 1600 block Park Place.

A second scene is also occupied with officers and multiple suspects detained. More information will be released when it becomes available.

Great work by our patrol officers—fraud suspect caught in the act. 👏

Earlier this afternoon, officers were dispatched to Hancock Whitney Bank, located near Texas Avenue and Holleman Drive, in reference to a fraud in progress call.

Upon arrival, officers investigated and determined that the suspect was attempting to cash a fraudulent check belonging to an elderly individual the suspect did not know.

Following the arrest, officers located several additional checks totaling thousands of dollars inside the suspect’s vehicle, preventing further criminal activity.

The suspect was identified as Dante McKinnie of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Charges include:

Forgery with intent to defraud or harm an elderly person

Fraudulent use or possession of identifying information (fewer than five items) — Elderly

Fraudulent use or possession of identifying information (fewer than five items)

This case highlights the swift and exemplary response of our officers, as well as the vigilance of bank staff who recognized suspicious activity and helped prevent an elderly individual from being victimized
