🌍📚 Attention international postdocs!

The National Postdoctoral Association is hosting an upcoming webinar that may be of interest to those considering long-term career opportunities in the United States:

💼 "Help Yourself: Pathways to Permanent Residence for Foreign National Postdocs in the US"
📅 Tuesday, June 9

🎉🌟 Congratulations, Dr. Dylan Pham! 🌟🎉

We are incredibly proud to share that our current Treasurer (and incoming PDA President), Dr. Dylan Pham, has been recognized by the National Postdoctoral Association as their Volunteer of the Month! 👏🏆

Over the past year, Dylan has served on both the NPA Advocacy Committee and Meetings Committee, helping support postdocs not only at Texas A&M but across the country. As Chair of the Social & Networking Subcommittee, Dylan worked to create opportunities for postdocs to connect, collaborate, and build meaningful professional relationships.

Reflecting on his experience, Dylan shared:
💬 "I attended my first NPA meeting in Boston last year and enjoyed the connections I made and wanted to be involved in the meetings committee to help other postdocs make meaningful connections. I learned about cross-country collaboration and more of the planning logistics of a national meeting. I hoped my contributions to the NPA meetings committee made the NPA meeting this year more memorable for many of the attendees."

Dylan exemplifies what it means to be a leader, advocate, and community builder. Whether through his service to the NPA or his dedication to the Texas A&M postdoc community, he consistently goes above and beyond to support others and create opportunities for connection and growth.

Please join us in congratulating Dylan on this well-deserved recognition! 🎊🎉

🧬🍕 Thank You, West Campus! 🍕🧬

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent Postdoc Meet & Greet in the Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics! It was wonderful to spend time on West Campus, connect with postdocs in BCBP and neighboring departments, and learn more about the exciting research happening on that side of campus. 🤝✨

One of our goals as a Postdoctoral Association is to reach postdocs wherever they are, and we greatly enjoyed the opportunity to meet both familiar faces and new members of our community. Conversations like these help us better understand your experiences and how we can continue to support postdocs across Texas A&M. 💙

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, grabbed lunch, and chatted with us. We hope to make it over to West Campus more often in the future and continue building connections across the entire postdoctoral community!

🌟🍽️ Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for our annual Postdoctoral Networking Dinner & Workshop at DiMassi’s! 🍽️🌟

We were thrilled to see such a strong turnout, with over 110 attendees coming together for an evening of great conversation, community, and delicious food. There was certainly plenty to eat—and we’re pretty confident no one left hungry! 🥙🥗✨

It was wonderful to reconnect with familiar faces and welcome new postdocs into the community. The highlight of the evening was the excellent talk by Dr. Christine Stanley, “Preparing for Change in a Changing World.” Her message about the importance of expanding your circle—building connections, embracing new perspectives, and supporting one another—fit perfectly with the spirit of the event. 🤝💡

Thank you again to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success. We hope to see you at our next event!

💬 If you attended, what’s one takeaway you’ll remember from Dr. Stanley’s talk? Let us know in the comments!

🌟 Aggie Postdocs: Where Are They Now? 🌟

"Aggie Postdocs: Where Are They Now?" is a spotlight series celebrating former Texas A&M postdocs and the many career paths they’ve pursued after their postdoctoral training. Through their stories, we highlight how leadership, service, and professional development at TAMU help shape meaningful and impactful careers.

This week, we’re excited to feature Dr. Musfiq Salehin, now an Assistant Professor of Agronomy at New Mexico State University! 🌾🎓

💼 How did PDA leadership help shape his career path?

Dr. Salehin shared that serving in a leadership role within the PDA helped him build connections with postdocs across the university while becoming more involved in decision-making and advocacy for the postdoctoral community. Through these experiences, he gained a deeper understanding of university-level leadership, mentorship, academic hiring, grant writing, and professional etiquette—all of which strengthened the leadership skills that continue to serve him in academia today.

📚 How did PDA professional development support his growth?

He credits TAMU’s wide range of professional development opportunities with helping him grow not only as a researcher and educator, but also as a mentor and leader. Programs such as the Postdoctoral Mentoring Academy provided valuable insight into mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, while workshops on topics like negotiating job offers gave him practical experience that proved extremely useful during his career transition. 🌱

💙 A favorite postdoc memory at TAMU

Dr. Salehin says he will especially miss the PDA’s spring and fall picnics, which brought together postdocs and their families for food, fun, and community. Those gatherings became some of his favorite memories from his time at TAMU and reflected the welcoming spirit of the postdoc community.

We’re proud of Dr. Salehin and excited to see the impact he’s making as a faculty member and mentor. 💙🤍

Sayantan Samanta, now an Assistant Professor of Agricultural & Biological Engineering at Mississippi State University! 🌾🎓

💼 How did PDA leadership help shape his career path?

Dr. Samanta shared that serving on the PDA Executive Committee gave him the opportunity to advocate for off-campus postdocs while building confidence in his leadership and problem-solving abilities. These experiences provided concrete examples he was able to highlight during his faculty interviews, helping demonstrate his readiness for an academic leadership role.

📚 How did PDA professional development support his growth?

He credits TAMU’s professional development programs with helping him grow beyond his research by creating opportunities to connect and collaborate with others. Leading writing sessions, in particular, strengthened his ability to foster collaboration—an essential skill that continues to serve him in his current role as a faculty member. 🌱

💙 A favorite postdoc memory at TAMU

Dr. Samanta’s most meaningful memory from his time at TAMU was the birth of his daughter during his second year as a postdoc. He reflects with gratitude on the support he received from his supervisor, his supervisor’s family, and the Vernon Indian community during that special time.

We’re proud of Dr. Samanta and excited to see the impact he’s making as a faculty member. 💙🤍 Stay tuned for more stories in our "Aggie Postdocs: Where Are They Now?" series!
