This photo says everything.
Less than 20 minutes.
That’s all Cheesehead and three other dogs have left before they are scheduled to lose their lives.
Look at his eyes.
He isn’t aggressive. He isn’t “just another shelter dog.” He’s scared. Confused. Waiting for someone who may never come.
This isn’t about blaming the shelter. They are doing the best they can with the space and resources they have. Their staff goes home carrying these heartbreaking decisions with them. The real problem is much bigger than any one shelter. Too many dogs. Not enough adopters. Not enough fosters. Not enough people saying, “I’ll help.”
And unless something changes, this will keep happening.
As a rescue, we are devastated. We don’t have open fosters. We don’t have kennel space. We can’t save dogs without somewhere safe for them to go. That’s the reality we face every single day.
But you… you might be the miracle one of these dogs has been waiting for.
If you’ve ever thought about adopting, please don’t wait for “someday.” For Cheesehead, Midnight, Koa, and Pesto… someday may never come.
One “yes” can stop a euthanasia. One family can rewrite a story. One decision can save a life.
Please. If you can adopt, go now. If you know someone who has been thinking about adding a dog to their family, tag them. Share this. Make one more phone call.
Because in less than 20 minutes… these four dogs are depending on complete strangers to become their heroes.
Please don’t let Cheesehead’s eyes be the last thing he sees before his time runs out. Call the San Marcos Animal shelter if you can help!
