Referral Details: active SOTW members will receive two additional entries for each new member referred who joins by August 31, 2026. Eligibility for the additional entries relies on the new member including your first and last name in the referral section of membership registration.

Our Personal Herbarium and Wall Art Workshop wrapped up last week where we all made a wall hanging or other art to display our pressed plants. We would like to send a huge thank you to Gitta Pap for leading the workshop series and College Station Parks and Recreation for the use of The Gary Halter Nature Center at Lick Creek Park!

Thank you to Gitta Pap, Timsel27 LLC and Dale A. Kruse, curator at the S. M. Tracy Herbarium for leading the first workshop in our Personal Herbarium and Wall Art series! This was a fantastic opportunity to get a glimpse of the specimens at TAES, some that are 200 years old! Do you recognize any of the plants? We are looking forward to next week when participants will collect plants to press for wall art.

Knock the rust off at our Dove Season Warm-Up — Saturday, Aug. 8 at Blackwood Sporting Co. A morning on the clays with BCS Stewards of the Wild before the Sept. 1 opener. Targets, a snack, and a post-round drink are covered; you bring the shotgun and shells. New to s***t? We’ll put a mentor right beside you.

Join us for an in-person workshop series celebrating the beauty and preservation of pressed plants. Participants will learn how to start a personal herbarium and transform pressed native plants into meaningful wall art.

Together, we will explore techniques for collecting, pressing, and preserving native plants from the park. This presentation will be led by Dr. Gitta Pat, a native plant enthusiast, urban and community planner, and founder of the research consulting small business Timesel27 LLC.

Join us and on May 28th at 6pm to learn the Pike Fly technique. The Pike Fly is a highly malleable pattern which can be tailored to target most any predator fish anywhere in the world. The version we will be tying has been developed by one of our members to target Texas bass after one more rod tip breakage from a Clouser Minnow strike.

Wildlife in Focus is calling on Texans of all ages to showcase the beauty of Texas wildlife and wild places before the June 7 deadline for the inaugural Texas Wildlife & Nature Photographer of the Year contest.

Categories include Birds, Mammals, Animal Behavior, Texas Wildscapes and more, with over $3,000 in prizes awarded, including a $500 grand prize.

All photos must be taken in Texas and follow ethical wildlife photography standards. Youth entries are free, and adult entries are $10 per image.

Winning photos may be featured in publications, exhibitions and educational programs across Texas, inspiring others to appreciate and protect our natural world.
