Happy Lunar Year!๐
Lunar New Year is a time of celebration and joy, of family and food, and of hope for a more prosperous year ahead! For AAPI families, it can also be a reminder that we live in multiple worlds: a majority culture world where the new year is fixed as January 1, and our Asian heritage world where we celebrate a second new year in late January or early February.
For some of us, it can be challenging to reconcile the two, to find belonging while balancing our existence in both worlds as we wrestle with intergenerational trauma, identity, and longing.
As Christians living in dual worlds, we have unique AAPI lived perspectives and insights on what it means to be citizens of heaven while living here on earth, of what it means to be in the world but not of the world, and of people living liminally while always navigating sometimes competing cultures and spaces.
And as we start this new year, let us hold fast to our faith; no matter what cultures we are in, no matter when or if or how we celebrate the lunar new year, we can be confident and rest in the unchanging character and grace of a God that is for all peoples and cultures.
Happy Lunar New Year!
