AABR AABR serves over 1,000 individuals with autism and developmental disabilities in the NYC area. AABR practices a unique approach to supportive care.

From the Board of Directors to Direct Care Workers, everyone plays a vital role, and our consumers, the starring role. Given a forum to shape their own lives, consumers are invited to voice their likes, dislikes and aspirations. Ultimately, their goals and wants shape our agency’s actions and choices. Because of our success, over the years, the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities has

often asked our agency to assist other organizations implement our integrated approach to care. We have also tested new pilot programs before they are employed on a statewide level. Our approach is always the same—consumer driven and consumer centered.

As Black History Month comes to a close, we honor advocates like Willie Mae Goodman and Lois Curtis, whose courage helped secure the right for people with disabilities to live in their communities—not institutions.

Their work helped change history. Their legacy lives on in every life empowered, every barrier broken, and every community that chooses inclusion.

At AABR, we are proud to carry that legacy forward.
