🍀🍀Green Firebreaks🍀🍀

A “green firebreak” is a strip of fire-resistant vegetation between or along the edge of other vegetation, often strategically planted to support prescribed burns while also enhancing wildlife habitat. Green firebreaks provide added habitat for quail. These areas provide a bobwhite buffet of protein-packed insects critical to chicks during their early lives.

Interested in planting a green firebreak of your own? Click the link below to get the Clover Kandy seed mix from the PF/QF Seed Store.

It is my honor to recognize a young man who proves that age is never a barrier to making a meaningful difference.
Ryder is a sixth grader with a schedule that would challenge many adults, yet he shows us what dedication, leadership, and service truly look like.
For the past three years, he has been an active volunteer with Pheasants Forever. He has worked at habitat events, helped with trash cleanups and weeding projects, and assisted in building Christmas tree shelters to protect pheasants during the winter. He doesn’t just attend — he participates. He engages. He shows up ready to work.
His service doesn’t stop there.
At Touchet School, Ryder supported a community blood drive and health fair, helping wherever extra hands were needed. This year, he volunteered to keep stats for the middle school girls’ basketball team, showing that leadership isn’t always about being in the spotlight, but about supporting others behind the scenes.
He also returns each year to help with his father’s hunter safety classes, serving as a role model and reinforcing responsibility and outdoor ethics.
Beyond volunteering, Ryder is deeply involved in 4-H and is preparing for his first breeding project ewe, due in just a week. He participates in soccer, basketball, track, and cross country. He maintains strong grades, cares for his livestock, and enjoys hunting and fishing.
In short — he is busy.
And that’s why this recognition matters.
Ryder shows us that volunteering isn’t about having extra time. It’s about making time. Choosing to serve. Understanding that communities grow stronger when each of us gives what we can.
Ryder, your spirit of volunteerism inspires us all. Thank you for your leadership, your hard work, and your heart for your community.
