November 15, 2025: Chikondi Kulemeka, founder and COO of The Desk Project, spoke about the organization’s success in providing desks for school children in Malawi. 1,950 desks, built by local carpenters, mean better attendance, higher test scores, and girls staying in school longer.

Every year, we partner with Operation Warm to give 200+ new winter coats to needy children on the Rt. 1 corridor. Coats are distributed to families in November at Joe’s Movement Emporium.

September 29, 2025: Aylin Apaydin, president of UMD Rotaract, joined other members at Rotary's Area 9 meeting. Aylin spoke enthusiastically about the club's service activities, including packing meals for Haiti and participating in an online global peace-making seminar.

September 24: UMD Professor Bill Bowerman gave us an update on the status of bird flu in the eagle population. At Michigan's Voyageurs National Park, the impact has been severe. Bowerman estimated a loss of two-thirds of breeding pairs from bird flu. However, there an increase in breeding pairs has been observed in the past year, leading to optimism that the worst is over.

July 30, 2025: We were delighted to host Michael Williams, Director of Economic Development for the City of College Park. Mr. Williams outlined challenges facing the city, such as increasing the inventory of affordable housing and supporting small businesses displaced by new developments along Route 1.

We are proud to say we were awarded a District 7620 Club Excellence GOLD Award for 2024-2025. This award recognizes our work in supporting Rotary goals, including partnering with ADRA to build a water system for an elementary school in Zimbabwe; supporting youth programs such as Interact AirTigers, UMD Rotaract, RYLA, and Rotary Youth Exchange; and promoting Rotary’s public image through our website and our Facebook and Instagram accounts.
