Girls Excelling in Math and Science (GEMS)

Girls Excelling in Math and Science (GEMS) G.E.M.S is a program that promotes education in math and science for girls worldwide.

Girls Excelling In Math and Science of Prince George’s County (G.E.M.S.-PGC) is an organization that seeks to engage, excite, and retain girls' interests and participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). We work to

- Enhance mathematical and scientific abilities
- Increase interest in pursuing studies and careers in STEM
- Instill an appreciation of the social values

of STEM
- Encourage parental support and student achievement

Our activities include
- Weekly interactive after-school enrichment program in STEM at middle schools of Prince George's County, MD.
- Outstanding mentorship with University of Maryland-College Park and other local university undergraduate students who serve as role models for middle school girls
- Field trips to math and science educational and research centers, such as, Bladensburg Waterfront Park and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
- Saturday workshops comprised of hands-on activities related to STEM fields
