Black Student Union

Black Student Union Keeping it real at the University of Maryland since 1968. Stay connected in order to be notified about BSU events and news at UMD!

The Black Student Union (BSU) was created in 1968 to maintain the strength and unity of the black community, but to also ensure that black students had a meaningful voice at The University of Maryland. BSU is one of the largest organizations at UMCP, boasting a membership of approximately 3, 000 undergraduate students. Our general body meetings (GBM) are held every OTHER Monday at 5:00 p.m. in the

Nyumburu Cultural Center’s Multi-Purpose Room. Come out and meet the entire Executive Board and get to know other Black students on campus! We have meetings on topics ranging from the relevance of pop culture to unfair treatment in the community. We are open to cosponsoring with a variety of groups so feel free to contact me by any of the ways listed below.

"My name is Austin Jared Plummer. I was born on June 26, 1997 and I have lived in Plainfield New Jersey for my entire life. My father is African American with Native American ancestors somewhere down the line, while my mother is African American but with Cuban ancestry. I grew up in a Christian household with 3 older brothers, 1 older sister, and one younger sister. I attended both private and public school throughout my life before coming to the University of Maryland. I have a passion for sports, innovation, entrepreneurship, and helping others. My dream has always been to become a professional baseball player. I am in the process of creating my own major, combining concepts of engineering and business to focus on the innovation of useful and affordable technology. I love meeting people and I try to carry positivity into every environment that I enter. At the end of the day, I hope to one day make the world a better place for less fortunate people."
