NEW at Northern Tier! This weekend-long training experience gives adult leaders coming to Northern Tier a behind-the-scenes look at the crew experience at Northern Tier, as well as hands-on skills used while on a canoeing trek. This course is taught by our experienced “Brigade Leaders” who train the staff every summer for the skills they will use with their crews. The course will include “classroom” sessions, tours of base camp and our facilities, and then a night on the trail to learn all about campsite setup and operation.
This program is designed for any adult leader who is signed up to attend a summer trek or someone looking to attend in the future. It is especially helpful for those who have not done a canoeing expedition before, but it is helpful for anyone looking to better understand what to expect while at Northern Tier. Sessions will cover every aspect of the experience, from arrival to shakedown, to gear issuing and use, canoeing and paddling skills, and campsite setup and cleanup. It’s a crash course that will help you and your crew be extra prepared for your upcoming trek.
Wilderness First Aid is available as an add-on to this course and will take place on the 2 days following the end of the course.
