I ended up moving to Colfax instead of staying in Orange County. The town is rooted in Railroad history as an important stop along the first Transcontinental Railroad.

They will be having a Railroad Days event on the 13th. & 14th. of this month, and it will be the Motormen(man)'s Debut in Northern California, right alongside the tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad! I'll have a small Standard Gauge setup located outside on Main Street.

After 12 years of bringing smiles to kids and adults alike. The Motormen will be halting events for the foreseeable future.

I (Brian), while not usually the center of attention, typically lurking in back by the transformer and cacophony of wires leading every which way, making sure everything is running smoothly and reliably, am the main driving force behind just about every aspect of each event, as well as the provider of the vast majority of display items. I've enjoyed sharing our hobby with people of all ages, but especially with the next generation of model railroaders and toy train collectors. Sadly for our group, I will be leaving to pursue a job opportunity in Costa Mesa and will no longer be able to co-ordinate or provide my collection for the events, so we no longer have plans for running trains at Old Poway Park. I will look to see if there are any venues in the Costa Mesa area, but it would be difficult to set up and operate by myself so I can't guarantee anything.

I'm glad you all enjoyed the previous events we put so much hard work into. I know that many of you have been coming to see us since the beginning, especially for our Christmas displays. This move is bittersweet, we've watched many kids grow up sharing our love for model railroading, many families making visits a yearly tradition for their little railroad enthusiasts, but all good things eventually come to an end. I hope that maybe a new group of people may step in to fill the void we are leaving in Old Poway Park's annual festivities, just as we stepped in over a decade ago.

I relished the time and all the fun we got to share with all of our visitors.

Our Story

We as The Motormen, pride ourselves in making educational and historical model railroad displays and exhibits down at Old Poway Park for young and old alike to enjoy. Events include Tinplate/Pre-War Standard & O gauge trains, HO, On30, and occasionally G.

Every display is a little different each time so it doesn’t get stale! So come on down and see the lightning speed of a Pre-War Lionel, the sheer power of a New York Central Hudson, or maybe the ambiance of an 1890’s mining town. Whatever you like, you’ll be sure to love our set-ups!
