Earlier this week, we had some potentially concerning algae on shore, as pictured below from the Fiesta Shores Facebook group. It has since disappeared, but we want to be diligent with keeping on top of this.

If anyone sees this kind of algae again, could you please put a sample in a mason jar and reach out to us ASAP? We want to get it tested to check if it could potentially be harmful. Knowledge is power.

🌊 Water Quality Wednesday 🌊

Wake boating on Coldwater and other lakes in the chain has grown in popularity, bringing excitement and fun to the water. However, research continues to show that large wakes can also have unintended impacts on our lakes and shorelines.

Large wakes can:
🚤 Contribute to shoreline erosion
🚤 Stir up bottom sediment and reduce water clarity
🚤 Release phosphorus back into the water, which can fuel algae blooms
🚤 Disrupt fish habitat and aquatic ecosystems

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Marble-Coldwater Clean Water Partnership (MCCWP) strongly recommends operating wake boats at least 500 feet from shore and only in water deeper than 15 feet.

In addition, new Michigan legislation proposed earlier this year will, if passed, establish statewide rules for wake boats, including distance-from-shore and minimum-depth requirements while operating in wake sport mode. It reflects growing statewide concern about protecting lake health and shorelines.

By being mindful of where and how wakes are created, we can help preserve clean water, healthy shorelines, and enjoyable recreation for everyone who loves the lake. 💙

What a great turnout! It was great to see those who were able to make it!

A special “thank you” to Josh Vickers and our Branch County Sheriff’s Department for giving us the lake stats and for spending time patrolling our lake to help keep everyone safe.

Meeting minutes will be available in the next week or two for those who were unable to come, or for those who would like a recap.

Have a safe, fun start to your lake season! ☀️ 🌊

A Heartfelt Farewell to Bent Prop Pub

To Brandon Tuckey and the entire Bent Prop Pub family,

On behalf of everyone at Rose Lake, we wanted to take a moment to send our deepest gratitude and well wishes as you prepare to close your doors.

While we are saddened to hear the news, our hearts are full of the memories we made within your walls. We especially cherished our early Spring Kickoffs at the pub. Those gatherings were more than just events; they were the official start of our favorite season, filled with laughter, community, and the warm hospitality you and your staff provided so effortlessly.

Thank you, Brandon, for opening your establishment to us and for being such a gracious host to the Rose Lake community over the years. You created a space where neighbors became friends, and for that, we are truly grateful.

We wish you and the rest of the Bent Prop team nothing but the absolute best in your next chapters. While we will miss the pub as it was, we hold onto the hope that the future might bring new life into the space once again.

With sincere thanks and best wishes,

Your Friends at Rose Lake
