Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan is the first stray dog prison program in the state of Michigan.

All our dogs are in foster homes before they enter training for 10 weeks. After graduating with manners the dogs go to their forever homes. It is our guiding philosophy to improve our communities, making a positive impact by taking advanced measures against animals suffering to perish due to human negligence and illegal, wrongful actions. We are passionate and ethically committed to save and rest

FROM RYAH’S RECENT REPORT:

RYAH IS A FEMALE 8-MONTH-OLD BOXER MIX THAT WEIGHTS 40 LBS. RYAH GETS ALONG WITH OTHER DOGS AND KIDS, AND WOULD MOST LIKELY GET ALONG WITH CATS IF INTRODUCED SLOWLY. RYAH ENTERED 10 WEEKS OF TRAINING ON 5/22 AND WILL BE READY TO COME HOME WITH HER APPROVED FAMILY ON AUG 7TH. RYAH’S APPROVED ADOPTER WILL RECEIVE HER WEEKLY REPORTS. SUBMIT YOUR APP!

Ryah had another productive week of training. She will do anything for a kibble. We are still regulating her water intake and giving her plenty of potty breaks so she does not have any more accidents. Since we have been regulating her water, she has had no accidents. We found out the other day Ryah does not like thunder. The gunshots from the gun range on the outside of the facility do not bother her.
Ryah’s playtime with the other dogs is still going excellent. Ryah loves all of the other dogs, we do not anticipate any problems out of her playtime. She is becoming more and more fluent with her commands as we move forward. She knows her Sit verbally now, she will know Down and Stand soon and then we will move to Left, Right and Middle.
Ryah would make almost any family a good pet, we can see no problems from her. We are enjoying our time with her as she is fun during training, her playtime and when we are just relaxing around the unit here.

FROM TUCKER'S RECENT REPORT:

TUCKER GETS ALONG GREAT WITH OTHER DOGS, CATS, AND KIDS AGED 10 YEARS AND OLDER DUE TO TUCKER’S SIZE! TUCKER IS 1 YR OLD. TUCKER’S RECENT DNA TEST REVEALED THAT HE IS A HANSOME PIT BULL/GERMAN SHEPHARD MIX AND HE WEIGHTS 85 LBS! TUCKER ENTERED TRAINING ON 5/22 TO BRUSH UP ON HIS MANNERS. TUCKER WILL BE READY TO COME HOME WITH HIS APPROVED FAMILY ON AUG 7TH. TUCKER’S ADOPTION FEE HAS BEEN LOWERED! SUBMIT YOUR APP TODAY! APPROVED ADOPTERS WILL RECEIVE TUCKER’S WEEKLY REPORTS. Tucker is still decompressing, but showing signs of improvement with his social skills. Meet & Greets with other dogs are going excellent, in playtime Tucker shows good manners during mutual play. He likes to chase and be chased. Although he is growing and finding his coordination, he runs like a very fast baby giraffe.
Tucker likes the ladies, so his improvements have been mostly with men, he’s getting more curious and likes to approach them on his terms for a sniff. We’ve had about 6 to 7 other handlers walking Tucker around the yard and he does great. His loose leash walking is terrific with anyone holding his leash. We will continue to socialize him, especially around crowded areas where Tucker is still a bit uncomfortable. Tucker has very good house manners, he hasn’t got in the trash or into anything not given to him.
Tucker is getting more and more comfortable in the crate, will continue working on it.
As part of our base training we have introduced the muzzle and gentle leader to Tucker, it’s a work in progress.

RPSM would like to thank the kind donor for responding to our plea for treats for the dogs in the training program, it is GREATLY appreciated! Indestructable toys are the other most requested item for the dogs in the training program! THANK YOU!

Every 10 weeks, RPSM goes through approximately 100 pounds of treats (140 to 154 bags of training treats) for the 14 dogs that enter training to learn their manners before being adopted! During those 10 weeks, we also go through approx. 50-60 toys every 10 weeks, (approx. 300 or more a year) depending on the sturdiness of the toys, for the 14 dogs that enter training to learn their manners before being adopted!

If you are looking for an EASY way to help RPSM take care of the fur-kids in our program? Simply shop from our wish lists!! The lists are frequently updated. RPSM is currently in need of dog treats for the 14 dogs that enter training as they make a great reward when the dogs perform their commands correctly.
