Coldwater Lodge No. 1023, proudly located in the heart of Branch County, is a cornerstone of Michigan’s South-Central District. Elks Care, Elks Share.

With 400 dedicated members, we actively champion community initiatives, state programs, and Grand Lodge endeavors. The Elks organization was founded in New York City on February 16, 1868 under the name "Jolly Corks" by 15 actors, entertainers and others associated with the theater. In ensuing years, membership expanded to other professions. The charter application for B.P.O.E. 1023 was signed on J

anuary 29, 1906 by approximately 50 men. The petition was approved and the lodge was instituted on April 26, 1906. In March 1908 the Coldwater Elks bought the building at the southeast corner of Division and Pearl Streets to house lodge activities. As of today, the Elks has grown to be a fraternal order with nearly a million members, including a network of more than 2000 lodges in communities all over the country. The Elks is proud to be a generous charitable foundation that each year gives millions in scholarships while also investing in their local communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, meet the needs of today’s veterans, and improve the quality of life. Through the Elks National Foundation, the Coldwater Elks were honored to receive a $1,000 grant to support our local veterans. These funds were used to provide the FootLocker at the Veterans Affairs office with perishable and non-perishable food items, as well as hygiene products.

This Memorial Day, the Coldwater Elks proudly remembers our fallen heroes and extends our gratitude to all who have served and continue to serve.

May we all take a moment today to reflect, remember, and honor those who gave everything for our nation.
