In light of recent and ongoing events, DGLG will continue to support our mentees as they navigate the array of emotions that they are experiencing. It is disheartening to witness atrocities that occur to African Americans in our communities and throughout this country, and although we are optimistic that justice will prevail, we remain alert and proactive in our approach to helping our mentees become exceptional leaders ready and willing to reshape society's views on race and equality in America. To begin this process, our team leaders have called for the following action steps: 1. Starting this Friday, we will provide mentees and their families with the opportunity to share their concerns, fears, and frustrations through our virtual mentee meetings. During these meetings DGLG mentors will actively listen and provide a safe haven for mentees to comprehend current events. Additionally, we will help students navigate their emotions by providing social emotional learning opportunities through our DGLG curriculum. Next, we will share weekly videos that mentees can view for motivation and encouragement. Finally, we will continue to be examples that our mentees can follow: this means being stewards of change and advocating for the rights and well-being of all our mentees! Our hearts are heavy and we stand united as the wheels of change, justice, and equality become actualized, especially for men, women, and children of color.
