Neighbors helping neighbors...
Assumption Community Faith in Action (ACFIA) is an interfaith volunteer caregiving initiative that brings together volunteers, organizations and our program staff members to work together to care for our neighbors who have long-term health needs or who have fallen on hard times. We serve the rural communities of Stearns County and all of the St. ACFIA volunteers come
from churches and other houses of worship, as well as the community at large. Volunteers help those in need by providing non-medical assistance with tasks such as picking up a few groceries or running errands, providing a ride to the doctor, friendly visiting (talking and listening), simple home repairs or modifications, housekeeping or assisting with chores, reading or helping to pay bills, and relieving a caregiver and spending time with an aging senior. With this volunteer assistance, members of the community who have long-term health needs can maintain their independence for as long as possible. ACFIA also offers staff directed services for older adults and caregivers including

It's a Movement! Faith in Action is a national movement that was founded on the ideals of community volunteerism and built on a philosophy of neighbors helping neighbors. With more Americans living longer lives, many face the challenge of helping a family member, neighbor or friend who suffers from arthritis, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's or other long-term health condition. These efforts have helped to create hundreds of interfaith volunteer caregiving programs across the country, which is now supported by a National Faith in Action Network. In Minnesota, we have our own network of Faith in Action programs through the Minnesota Faith in Action. This network offers program support and advice on developing successful, sustainable caregiving programs that can serve their communities for many years to come.
