With revent heavy rainfall events in our area, we have received calls about private domestic water wells being overtopped by flash flooding or flooded well pits. We recommend that if you suspect your wellhead has been submerged in these evets that you have your water screened for bacteria and nitrates.

Photos are of positive bacterial result discovered in screening a well that was overtopped this week in Thomas County. This result indicates F***l Coliform Bacteria and E. Coli are present in this well and it should be chlorinated to eliminate bacteria.

You can pick up a sample kits from your county health departments as well as our Colby office. For chlorination guidance, please contact this office.
