VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTIONS::
• Bring water. The only bathroom we can use is in the DPW building next to the RTF. On weekends, we have no bathroom available.
• On weekends, consider parking at the DPW building to keep your car off the RTF lot. This is the driveway that is just past the RTF's.
Opening:
The yard workers will open the Boutique doors if you need help.
Bring out the table and place it out front. This is a work table on which to label items and place the volunteer signup notebook.
Best practice: Put on a yellow Friends of the Boutique apron. This identifies you as a Boutique curator and authority.
Accepting stuff:
If the purpose of the donated item is not obvious, either the donor or you should attach a note to the piece. Tape together items that have many components. Tape and supplies are in the gray bin.
Accept only stuff you can imagine someone taking.
Don't accept old electronics, appliances missing key components, dirty stuffed animals, etc.
Do not accept any furniture that one person cannot lift. (Note: Dark wood and poor-condition furniture are not in high demand)
Don't accept clothing and most textiles. Those go in the white textile trailer next to us.
What to let go:
Items that are undesirable or have been in the Boutique a week or two can be:
-- Recycled if they are metal or glass or cardboard
-- Piled to the side to be collected by yard workers to discard OR you can discard them in the demolition bin between the trash area and the bulldozer
-- Collected to be brought to Savers, Goodwill, Good Deeds, ReStore, etc. Some volunteers might do this. We need to organize that.
Closing:
At the end of the 10-2 Boutique open hours, everything that is not discarded must be put back into the Boutique.
The yard workers can close and latch the doors at closing if you would rather not.
