Our staff are hard at work here at camp!

Over the last couple of days, all of Wapsie has come together to complete many different work projects! From garden work to learning how to use power tools, our counselors are gaining some wonderful skills. Despite the dew we've been having this week, staff have made incredible progress in getting camp all ready for campers to show up!

Today, our new CEO, Cari, visited Wapsie to talk with our staff! We were so excited to have Cari at camp so she could meet the wonderful seasonal staff we have here and build a deeper connection between the Wapsie family and the rest of the YMCA.

Cari is a Cedar Rapids native, a graduate of Washington High School (go Warriors!), and the Cedar Rapids YMCAs have consistently played a part in her family's lives. Today, she offered staff a unique perspective not only as the CEO of the Cedar Rapids YMCA, but also as a Wapsie parent herself!

Cari also got to know our staff on a more individual level during her visit today. She had each staff member talk about what they hope their campers take away from a week at camp. These goals that the counselors have for their kids showed Cari how dedicated the Wapsie staff are, and she is looking forward to having her kids experience Wapsie again this summer!

Only 5 DAYS LEFT until campers get to live and learn all about nature!

Something special we do on Tuesday nights here at camp is Nature Night! Nature night give campers the opportunity to choose there own adventure and learn something new about nature! From fire building, time in the garden or going on a mud hike, Nature Night takes the Wapsie experience to the next level!

From expectation fires, R.O.W.D.I.E, camp crafts, cookouts, and the Wishstick. If there is a chance to get around a campfire to sing, share or cook we are taking it!

Come spend your summer at Camp Wapsie!

We have a last-minute female Rotating Junior Counselor position open for Summer 2026! Applicants must be able to start as soon as possible, and the position would work through August 15th. **At this time, we ARE able to consider applicants for the FIRST HALF of the summer, if you are not able to be at camp for the entire duration of camp.**

There is only 7 DAYS LEFT until the staff get to meet their first set of campers for the summer at check-in!

Currently, the staff are training to be the best counselors they can be. While also prepping activities and facilities to make it the BEST SUMMER EVER!

Only 1 week stands between them and the joy of having a living unit full of smiling faces, and they can't wait!

Happy first day of Staff Training!

Yesterday, all of our staff arrived at Wapsie for the start of pre-camp! It was a busy day, starting with move-in, a few meeting sessions led by our Program Staff, team building activities, and an all-camp game. We rounded out our evening with a beautiful campfire in the Nursery, where we were able to reflect on our wonderful first day with the whole staff on site. We already can't wait to see all of the amazing things this staff will accomplish this summer!

There are only 9 DAY LEFT until campers are back at camp trying to make history and be the first campers to win Mission Impossible!

If any group of campers accomplish this IMPOSSIBLE task the prize will be the biggest ever given out by camp. Parents, let's just say if your camper out run our counselors you're going to need a big back yard...because the tower will be coming home with you too!

If you've never played before don't worry, our counselors can't wait to tell you all about it on the word... GO!

Announcements! Announcements! Announcements! Hey!

Join us Labor Day Weekend for the second annual Staff Alumni Canoe Campout! The weekend will feature a canoe trip down the Wapsipinicon River, followed by a traditional Wapsie cookout, a campfire social, and plenty of time to connect with fellow Wapsie alumni. Families are encouraged to attend!
