Men's Health Week:
June 15–21

Men’s Health Week is a reminder that taking care of your health is a sign of strength. This week, make time for the basics that can have a big impact:

✅ Schedule a checkup
✅ Get moving every day
✅ Prioritize sleep
✅ Eat healthy foods
✅ Talk openly about your mental health

Many of the leading health issues affecting men can be prevented or managed through regular screenings, healthy habits, and early action. Men's Health Week is dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging men and boys to take charge of their health.

Tag a man in your life and encourage him to put his health first this week. 💙

Everyone Deserves to Feel Seen, Valued, and Supported

A healthy community is one where everyone feels safe, respected, and connected.

Research shows that individuals who experience isolation, bullying, discrimination, or a lack of support are more likely to face challenges with mental health. That's why creating welcoming spaces and meaningful connections is so important for the well-being of all people.

This month, we encourage our community to:

💚 Check in on friends and family
💚 Practice kindness and respect
💚 Listen without judgment
💚 Support positive mental health
💚 Help build a community where everyone feels they belong

When people feel connected, supported, and valued, our entire community becomes healthier.

🦺 June is National Safety Month! 🦺

Safety isn't just something to think about at work—it's something that helps protect us at home, on the road, and throughout our community every day. National Safety Month, led by the National Safety Council, is dedicated to reducing preventable injuries and helping people make safer choices wherever they are.

This year's weekly focus areas include:

✅ Moving Safety Forward
🚗 Staying Safe on the Roads
💚 Promoting Holistic Health & Well-Being
⚠️ Preventing Slips, Trips, and Falls

At Live Healthy Montgomery County, we encourage everyone to take a few simple steps this month:

✔️ Wear your seatbelt every trip
✔️ Put the phone away while driving
✔️ Check smoke detector batteries
✔️ Stay hydrated during outdoor activities
✔️ Learn CPR or refresh your emergency preparedness skills
✔️ Watch for hazards around your home and workplace

Small actions can prevent serious injuries and save lives.

❤️🚑 National CPR & AED Awareness Week | June 1–7 🚑❤️

Would you know what to do in a cardiac emergency?

Nearly 70% of cardiac arrests happen at home, and a person's chance of survival drops by about 10% for every minute that passes without CPR or defibrillation.

Remember the 3 Cs:
✔️ Check the scene for safety
📞 Call 911
❤️ Care by starting CPR and using an AED if available

The best part? Anyone can perform Hands-Only CPR, and AEDs are designed to guide users with simple voice prompts.

Want to learn CPR? Local training opportunities are available through Coffeyville Community College, which offers EMT/Paramedic-led CPR courses including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Heartsaver CPR. Contact their Technical Campus at 700 Roosevelt St. or call (620) 252-7550 for upcoming classes.

You can also find CPR and AED training through the American Red Cross, with classes available in nearby communities and through blended online/in-person options.

A few hours of training could give you the confidence to save a life. ❤️

May is American Stroke Awareness Month ❤️🧠

Did you know up to 80% of strokes are preventable? Live Healthy Montgomery County encourages everyone to learn the warning signs of stroke and understand the importance of acting FAST.

Remember B.E. F.A.S.T.:
🟡 B – Balance: Sudden loss of balance or coordination
👀 E – Eyes: Sudden trouble seeing
🙂 F – Face Drooping: One side of the face droops or feels numb
💪 A – Arm Weakness: One arm feels weak or numb
🗣️ S – Speech Difficulty: Slurred speech or confusion
⏰ T – Time to call 911 immediately

Knowing the signs could save a life — maybe even your own.

Talk with your healthcare provider about stroke risk factors like high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, inactivity, and AFib. Small healthy changes can make a big difference!
