Virtual Presentation and Q&A
Athena will share her personal experience living with Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) and discuss how this condition has impacted her life and recovery journey. Following her presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during a live Q&A session.
What is Tardive Dyskinesia?
Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) is a movement disorder that can develop as a side effect of certain medications used to treat mental health conditions. Symptoms may include involuntary movements of the face, mouth, tongue, arms, legs, or torso. While TD can be concerning and sometimes embarrassing or uncomfortable for those experiencing it, there is hope.
Today, there are effective treatment options available that may help reduce the symptoms of TD. These treatments can often allow individuals to remain on the mental health medications that are working well for them, without having to sacrifice symptom stability. In addition to medication options, individuals may also benefit from supportive strategies and lifestyle approaches that can improve quality of life.
Understanding TD is important because many individuals living with mental health conditions may experience these symptoms and not realize what is happening or what resources are available. Education empowers individuals and families to have informed conversations with their healthcare providers and make decisions that support their recovery goals.
We encourage all peers, family members, mental health professionals, and community supporters to join us for this informative and hopeful discussion.
