A picture is worth a thousand words.
When Staci, Laney’s mom, saw this photo come up in her Facebook memories, it brought her back to a moment she’ll never forget.
Laney had recently been diagnosed with CRMO and had already endured countless X-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs, a biopsy and blood tests. She was terrified of needles, and the thought of sitting through IV infusions lasting 4-hours each felt incredibly overwhelming.
“I couldn’t imagine how we could convince her to allow the nurse to place the IV, let alone leave it in for four hours. But MCP was there for us. You can’t see in this picture, but Laney had the laptop set up and was in a 1:1 Session with Katie. MCP was there for every infusion. We timed the meetings so that Laney would be distracted while the IV was placed.”
For a family in Juneau, Alaska, where pediatric resources are limited and isolation can make an already difficult journey feel even harder, Melodic Caring Project became a lifeline.
“She continues to meet with MCP’s Lead Music Therapist, Christina and I just want you to know how deeply I appreciate you. Laney’s disease has become more active again, and we might be looking at returning to intensive treatment once again. It means so much that you all are there with us on our journey. The 1:1 sessions, song requests, shoutouts at livestream concerts…we are so grateful for it all.” ~ Staci, Laney’s Mom
