Meet the Western Larch, found in mountain regions of the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies, especially in Idaho, Montana and British Columbia.

Meet the Western Larch (Larix occidentalis) — a unique conifer that changes with the seasons. Unlike most evergreens, it turns a soft golden yellow in fall before shedding its needles for winter. ✨

Here are a few things that make it special:
🌲 It’s one of the few deciduous conifers found in North America.
🌳 Mature trees typically reach 100–180 feet tall, and some can grow even higher in ideal conditions.
🔥 Its thick bark and high branches help protect it from fire, making it one of the most fire-resistant trees in western forests.
🏔️ You’ll find Western Larch in the mountain regions of the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies, especially in Idaho, Montana, and British Columbia.
🪵 The wood is strong and durable, often used for framing, flooring, and sometimes railroad ties.
🐿️ Its seeds and needles provide food and shelter for a variety of wildlife.

The results of Brake Safety Week are in, with 2,296 vehicles placed out of service due to brake-related violations.

Inspectors in 52 jurisdictions conducted 15,175 commercial motor vehicle inspections with a focus on brake systems and components for Brake Safety Week, Aug. 24-30. The majority of vehicles inspected (84.9%) did not have any out-of-service brake violations. However, inspectors did place 2,296 vehicles out of service due to brake-related violations. That is a 15.1% out-of-service rate out of the total number of vehicles inspected. View the full results.
