Join us tonight and test your gear.

What Artic Blast?
Starting this Thursday, December 22nd, 4pm to 7pm at Capone's Pub on the Green, will be a gathering of winter snow bikes(low pressure 3.8" wide or wider "fat" bikes only) to test their winter riding skills. Each Thursday, as weather will allow, we will meet and test our winter riding on the .65 mile groomed loop in some different way.
This Thursday, Dec 22nd we will test your ability to dress and stay warm in predicted artic blast temperatures while riding 5 clockwise laps. Keeping your face, fingers, and toes, warm along with riding a steady pace in the dark will be timed and recorded.
The 5 laps must be ridden between 4pm and 7pm on Thursday and documented on a GPS system and recorded in the Clubhouse.

The fastest 5 laps with the least amount of frostbite ....wins!!!

Trek Bicycle Store Coeur d'Alene will buy the first 10 rider's fees($10.00).

Bring lights, helmet, all the clothes you own, plus $10.00 (if you are the 11th rider to register). All registered riders get 10% off purchases in the clubhouse while you're waiting to hear how your time compares or getting the feelings back into your toes and fingers.
See all you snow bikers this Thursday(22nd) at the CHILLY NILLY at the Ponderosa 4pm-7pm.
Each Thursday will be a little something different. Like this page and be watching for weather and course conditions and future events.

Groomed 1562➡️ top of D ➡️ 7 ➡️ cave.
The road isn’t bad but it’s still soft.
From the view point to upper D (2342) is SUPER SOFT.
What can I say it is SOFT, everywhere!
low pressure (1-3psi)

One more thing, when we groom in the evening we do it because the snow is at its warmest and then the track needs 12+ hours to set up. Please try to avoid riding on freshly groomed trails.

* side note. We try to brush as we go but we can always use help. If you notice some brush that is annoying, stop and see if you can clear it out. If we all pitch in is makes a big difference.

Grooming report:
I love big dumps but that was ridiculous! Mike and I headed up 1562 today. I was breaking trail with a snowmobile and Mike was grooming. Mike still had to push the groomer up sections of the road. Above the view point we encountered lots of drifting snow. I got stuck several times. Mike did make it down D, 7 and cave.
I’m afraid that the snow is too cold to set up but I will check it out in the morning and report.

A reminder to all...
It is still very early in the season and our Fatbike trails are in the "creation" mode so you may find some trails in great shape and others that are barely rideable.
Please.....if you find yourself punching in and leaving tire prints 1" or deeper, try letting air out of your tires to see if conditions improve. If not, then please turn around......the trail(s) will not get any better if you push on. The deep ruts and footprints are a challenge to groom out and often can't be fixed until new snow arrives.
Looks like we may see some significant new snow later this next week, although the very cold temps afterwards will keep the snow light and airy, which may take awhile to set and firm up.

Thank you for your support!

11/28/22 grooming report: 1562 still had some ice that made the groomer work but it got better after I crossed trail A. Upper D should be good, this snow is cold so it may take a few passes to get a good base. Please air down. Then I groomed out 1562 to dry gulch saddle and down 11 to B and eventually A. I almost made it back to the saddle and lost control ( this is frequent on the groomer) hit a log and bent the frame that pinched the track ☹️ I didn’t have the tools to fix so I hiked out to the Fernan trail head for an evac. I did get a little freaked out with fresh cougar tracks at the junction of B and 10 ( this was 9pm.)
I will head up in the morning with tools and hopefully retrieve the groomer and I will update at that time. Once we finish the figure 8 loop it will be 17 miles of enduro fat bike single track 🤘🏻🚵‍♂️❄️

Report 12/25/21
D had so many trees! So many that I ran out of saw gas.
Also while I was sawing out one another tree fell right next to me, scared the s**t out of me.
Still two trees down on D.
Since I was out of saw gas I didn't go down 7 (didn't want to get stuck behind a log.)

We will try to get everything cleared out tomorrow.

Canfield grooming report;
The road is great from all the AT&T workers with the side by sides.
I made it down D and brushed a lot but it will need more. One big log on D really dulled my saw.
7 was good but my saw was toast so I couldn’t remove a small tree, but the groomer made it over it.
I didn’t mess with cave but instead I had an adventure on trail 8 from Penn station to upper lot.
Lots of Moto whoops and I did roll the groomer once on the lower section when it has slid off some (that was fun.)

We are expecting warmer temperatures tomorrow, please remember the guide lines.

Use fat tires
Try to walk beside the trail
Keep tire pressure low
***Stay away if it’s too warm***
Yield to uphill traffic
Ride it, don’t slide it
If you are leaving a track on groomed trail deeper than 1” go home.
