It seems fitting that, in the midst of Fire Camp, we said, “Thank you, and see you soon!” to Steve Meyer as he retires from his day-to-day role with Lutherhaven Ministries after 31 years of faithful service.
‘Cause if we weren’t in the thick of Fire Camp, a mystery sewer line would be bursting, a tree would be toppling through a building, or the long road to camp would need plowing in the middle of a winter snowstorm. For 31 years, Steve has been there through it all, faithfully showing up for the expected, the unexpected, and the “Well, THAT’S never happened before…”
Steve first joined Lutherhaven as Program Director in 1995, later serving as Associate Director and, most recently, Special Projects Director.
Steve’s fingerprints are everywhere you look at Lutherhaven Ministries. He has maintained, built, or rebuilt just about every building and feature across your camps, from the Welcome Center and North Garden Lodge to the McPherson cabin, Shoshone Dining Hall, and so much more.
Of course, the biggest mark Steve leaves behind isn’t on buildings or roads, but on the hundreds of campers, staff, and volunteers he’s served in Jesus’ name.
Thankfully, Steve isn’t going far! He’ll continue helping Lutherhaven with special projects on a contractual basis. A true fan of demo days, he’s especially looking forward to tearing down the Beach Bathrooms when the time comes, then helping build newer, better bathrooms to serve generations of campers to come. In the meantime, he’s looking forward to more time with his grandkids and taking on building projects throughout the region.
