With over 30 years in technical teaching and applied arts, Lemuel “Chip” Miller of DaKantie Studios has devoted his career to the development of the basic skills that enable furniture making, design and residential construction. Quick to embrace skills in woodworking, welding, metal fabrication, machine tool technology and computer numerical control machining, Chip is not afraid to experiment and reach for something different. Always keen to use local materials whenever possible, Miller is driven to design and build for the “new West”. Chip along with his wife Peggy of 35 years, raised their family in Oregon and Wyoming. Miller and his family have been indelibly influenced by the timeless craftsmanship and talented artisans inherent in Timberline Lodge on the side of Mount Hood, to the modern mountain architecture frequently showcased in Bend, Oregon, the simple lines of Frank Lloyd Wright and his homes that pepper the region, the modern influence of Charles and Ray Eames, and of course the humble design of the lodges of Yellowstone.

In 2001 Al Hone and his two sons Kalib and Kade applied for, and were juried into, the Western Design Conference. Their first piece there met with rave reviews. They won the People’s Choice Award for their “Majestic Moose Bar”. In 2003 Al entered “Grandpas Desk” and received Best of Show. 2006 Al and Kade recieved two awards for “Time Well Spent”, Exhibitors Choice Award, and Best Artist Accent. This sparked a very busy period for the business that led to them creating projects for clients all over the country.

The last decade Al has pursued the fine art world of bronze sculpting and fine art drawings and paintings that have received even more awards. Kalib and Kade have taken over the woodworking portion of the business and operate their shop in the Seattle area. They specialize in custom woodworking projects from furniture to custom staircases. They are currently working on projects that combine functional furniture with the fine art of sculpting and painting as well as their signature carvings.

With meticulous attention to detail, and a feel for true balance in their art, The Hone’s have made an impact. Working closely with clients and designers they can create everything from one of a kind pieces of furniture to functional art pieces for your home that are truly unique and inviting.

Come visit us at the gallery this week and see all of Al Hone's pieces!

What started as a small family woodworking business in 1960 has evolved into one of the most noteworthy custom design and hand-carved furniture studios in the country. Al Hone’s grandfather started a cabinet and furniture business that has seen four generations of woodworkers. Al started helping at the shop as soon as he could push a broom. Soon he was building his own pieces of furniture and built his first desk by age twelve. He took over the cabinet business when his father retired. In 1998 Al decided to try his hand at a more artistic approach. He began carving smaller wood, sculptural pieces and soon the wood carving and the furniture design were combined to create beautiful pieces of functional art.

Come see all of Al's unique pieces we have here in the gallery, Wednesday - Saturday 10-5pm!

Wayne Delyea’s journey as an artist and master woodworker began in the rugged landscapes of rural Northern Arizona, where he developed a deep love for nature, art, and craftsmanship at an early age. By the time he was 14, his artistic talent was already shining—he sold his first oil painting at the county fair and took his first formal woodworking class that same year.

While his academic background includes Business Management studies at Mesa Community College and The University of Phoenix, Wayne’s true calling was always in woodworking. Today, he is a full-time bespoke furniture maker, owning and operating Wayne Delyea Furniture Maker near Granbury, Texas. He specializes in crafting exquisite, handmade furniture—cabinets, desks, tables, chairs, and his signature rocking chairs—many adorned with intricate marquetry and inlay embellishments.

Come see Wayne's marquetry pieces at the gallery Wednesday - Saturday 10-5pm!
